Event Description
"When Kim opens her mouth she lets loose a powerful force pouring out her emotion with a style that has Janis Joplin written all over it..."
- Dan MacDonald, Cape Breton Post
Kim Wempe has a fight in her. It fuels her fierce passion, radiating the moment she steps on stage. Recognized as Atlantic Canada's 2010 Galaxie Rising Star, Wempe is a vocal powerhouse. When she opens her mouth she lets loose a full, smoky sound that can't help but turn heads in the loudest rooms.
Born in a small Saskatchewan farming town, Kim lived for a period in Alberta before heading to Canada's East Coast in 2007. After only three months in Nova Scotia, Kim realized that what once seemed a daunting and unplanned move was actually put in her path for a reason. The change of scenery and people provided the theme for her latest recording "Painting With Tides" and nurtured a fresh view on life, home, self, and music.
A semi-finalist in the 2009 and 2011 International Songwriting Competition, Kim combines evocative lyrics with a voice whose likeness can't be nailed down - a voice so distinctly unique it never goes unnoticed.

Gabrielle Papillon:
"Papillon's acoustic delivery is the sort that will stay with you, kicking around in your head long after each track ends. Her voice has the ability to saturate your audio intake in a personal way, whilst maintaining the tempo necessary to keep your feet tapping. She has a way of articulating that gives life to the edges of those letters most people skip over."
Josh Doyle, The Ontarion
Canadian singer-songwriter Gabrielle Papillon has been singing all her life. She began humming her own melodies as a toddler and, writing her first songs at fourteen as soon as she learned her basic chords on a guitar. In 2001 she released her first album Songs for a Rainy Day through independent producer Concept Studios. She received a FACTOR grant on the heels of recording her EP The Wanderer (2010) in the fall of 2009 and two more FACTOR grants followed in March of 2011. By way of cars, busses, planes, and trains Gabrielle began touring full time in June of 2010. Since playing Halifax's In the Dead of Winter Festival in January 2010, Papillon's music has found it's way onto local and regional CBC airwaves as well as onto CBC Radio 3s rotation.
