Event Description
The Dreadsteppas are:
Spoon...
Moving dance floors all across Vancouver Island with his mixed varieties of Drum n’ Bass and Break Beats. Starting his DJ career in 2004, Spoon has quickly rose to be one of the “Next Up and Comers”, affiliated with some of the larger Break Beat promotion crews, Breakbeat Island, 4the Music, 420 Kru and DB mint. Your not gonna know what this boy is gonna throw at you next, he is not one to be missed!
Okibi...
Chris 'Okibi' is an innovative and sometimes unconventional DJ, producer, and live performance artist from Victoria, BC. With an early beginning in drum and bass and dubstep, and mentoring from some of Canada’s finest, Okibi has exploded on to the broken-beat scene, opening for acts such as 12th Planet, Noah D, Capital J, RCola, ill.Gates, and Soulhunter. He brings a diverse selection of beats and styles to every set. From rolling liquid funk, to dubwise exclusives, bangin’ jump up, and glitched out dubstep, Okibi utilizes everything from vinyl to MIDI controllers. In late 2006, he founded Union Sound System, a steadily growing network of avant-garde artists. Involved in a number of music projects, from the Dreadsteppas DJ crew, to the left-field live p.a. stylings of AUTOMATON, Okibi stays true to the old school sounds, while pioneering future vibes.
Dezine...
Exploding onto the west coast drum and bass scene Matt 'Dezine' has been bringing a soulful fusion of sexy dark funk to dance floors all over Vancouver Island. In just under a year he has opened for the likes of Freaky Flow, DJ Sw@t, CronikAl, and dominated the beaches at last summers Soundwave festival. Dezine has also been deep in the studio banging out his own brand of self produced tracks. Expect to see some full releases from this beat designer early next year.
PHRASE...
There are 4 beats in a bar, and 4 bars in a phrase, but that's not the only phrase in music. Fraser Evans, better known as Phrase, fell in love with music from a young age and has always been interested in shaping a certain sound. Attraction to broken beats brought him to where he is in the electronic music scene today. With several years of mixing and many more of drumming and various other instruments under his belt you can always expect fine rhythms. Even at only 17 years of age Phrase steps up to the deck and impresses, every time.
