Event Description
. Saturday, July 4th IMU presents HOT PANDA, The ENEMY FEATHERS, ALOUETTE LAKE and PALMER & WAY TO GO EINSTEIN @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir . Doors 9pm
HOT PANDA sound like anything and everything: brit pop, lo-fi jangles, glammy keyboards, gypsy swing, opera solos and "melodies that will be impossible to dislodge from your temporal cortex" (Chart Magazine) all find their home in the music of Hot Panda... sometimes all in the same song! Wheeling across Canada in a dodgy 1977 ambulance, taking their rambunctiously theatrical live show to kids who like to dance all over North America, they've played festivals such as SXSW, CMJ and Pop Montreal and just completed a European tour with the Von Bondies. Their shiny new album "Volcano... Bloody Volcano!" debuted at #1 on Canadian college radio and at #21 on CMJ's US college charts! http://www.hotpanda.ca
ALLOUETTE LAKE and PALMER cant decide if Alouette should have one L or not. Songs of love, weird acts of love, the Love Boat, and sailor bars. Featuring the entwined vocals of Trevor Hargreaves (Huge Manatease) and Heather Ramsay (Awkward Stage back-up vocals), and rounded out by Manateaser's Christian Chaumont and Paolo Cepeda on drums and guitar and Geoff Gauthier (The Drycleaners) on bass, this band is a tender mix of dirty lyrics, pop harmonics and folked up vocals. http://www.myspace.com/allouettelakeandpalmer
The ENEMY FEATHERS embrace do-it-yourself pop music, post-punk craft, folk rock guts and epic garage excitement in a do-or-die struggle with the banalities of everyday life. Beautiful nobodies with many lost dreams grow up together and take the war home. Enjoy the sorrows of being alive while escaping the dustbin of history. It's time to join the enemy. http://www.myspace.com/theenemyfeathers
WAY TO GO, EINSTEIN is a solid modern rock act that blends superb guitars and piano with creative songwriting. Favourably compared to acts like Muse and Coldplay, they recently released their second CD "Pseudonym". Building on the buzz of their first release "Hide and Seek Champion", their new album promises to bring plenty more attention, stimulated ears, moved souls, and ironic band name loving fans. "Their melodies soar to the heavens, backed by lush beds of reverb-treated guitars and synthesizers" - Georgia Straight http://www.myspace.com/waytogoeinstein
