Event Description
Sooke’s own event producers CHILLacts are presenting an evening of live world music and dance on Saturday April 26th at the Sooke Royal Canadian Legion. The show is billed “A Tribute to the Tribes” and brings guest musicians and performers from many locales to present a world beat global groove from Live Improv to Electronic Soundscapes plus Tribal Fusion Dance and Special Guest Artists.
The musical performer’s line up includes Sunyata, a group of improv performers utilizing only acoustic instruments—strings and percussion, some of them handmade. The band is comprised of 4 members who reside in Victoria, Salt Spring Island and Sooke. The group is known for their beautiful flamenco soundscapes and perform regularly in Victoria. Azul Salvaje, Sooke based musician and teacher known for his world fusion electric violin, fiddle, guitar and percussion. DJ Rowan who strives to unite through fusing cultures and sounds, he rocks the dance floor with his broad range of influences and keen mixing skills.
Dance and spoken word performers include Oriana, a Salt Spring Island dancer and instructor known for her authentic and riveting Belly Dance performances. Oriana has studied Yoga since 1990 and Belly Dance since 1998, taught and performed from New Brunswick west to Victoria and south to Mexico. Seattle based Pinky & Colette will light up the night with their exotic fire / light performance. The event will be complete with VJ Effects, Installations & Event Decorations by Special Guest Artists.
Tickets are available in Sooke at Stick in the Mud & Freedom Arts Music and in Victoria at Lyle’s Place. A limited amount of tickets may be available at the door. Sorry No Minors. CHILLacts is a partnership between Lindy Philip, a Sooke entrepreneur who is artistically bent and determined! And April Ingham, a professional arts administrator currently working as a Production Manager for a film and TV company in Victoria. Their focus is to present the work of extraordinary artists and produce sensational creative events in the Sooke area.

Oriana - Known for her authentic and riveting Belly Dance performances. Oriana has studied Yoga since 1990 and Belly Dance since 1998, taught and performed from New Brunswick west to Victoria and south to Mexico. Oriana believes the body is a temple that should move as beautifully as goddesses of old, loves Egyptian dance forms and has studied Afro-Brazilian Fusion.
