Lean and mean, San Francisco’s rock quintet, New Monsoon, has been transforming audiences across the country into dedicated fans with a relentless touring schedule. Their exhilarating marriage of acoustic and electric instruments comes together in an irresistible blend of sophisticated songcraft, inventive musical exploration and down home rock-n-roll.
New Monsoon's original compositions are an experience of musical textures, rhythms, ideas and moods. At any given performance, the audience enjoys a synthesis of genres, everything from bluegrass to reggae, to funk and rock 'n' roll. No two shows are the same and fan recordings of performances have become a favorite among tapers and traders in musical communities throughout the country.
This summer, New Monsoon is set to release their fifth album, titled New Monsoon V, which was produced/mixed/engineered by the Grateful Dead’s John Cutler.
ALO’s recent release of their new album Roses & Clover reflects the bands newfound approach to their music. For this album, instead of performing songs live for years, crafting and shaping hundreds of times over before entering the studio, ALO explored new methods of collaborating, finding a richer, more mature sound built on their individual songwriting strengths. Recorded in a turn-of-the-century barn in the hills overlooking colonial Santa Barbara, the four musicians holed themselves up for two weeks with little more than their favorite instruments and 40 songs in various stages – 80% of which had never been performed on stage.
After being declared “2007’s Artist to Watch” by influential Triple A radio station WXPN and worldwide tours with both Jack Johnson and Dave Matthews Band, Roses & Clover is just what ALO needs to launch them into musical superstardom.
