Event Description
Renowned jazz pianist George Essihos and his guests present a feast of piano music, both classical and jazz.
The eclectic programme includes music by Bach and Mozart as well as jazz standards by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Ann Ronell, Jerome Kern, Henry Mancini, Victor Young, and more.
George Essihos, whom CBC's Jurgen Gothe has called one of the country's best jazz pianists, period, will provide a sneak preview of music from his next CD, due for release in the new year.
The evening will also feature works by local composers. On hand to play jazz standards as well as their own works will be Robert Mari, a pianist, composer, conductor, and improv artist, and Alex Denis, a senior student in the Conservatory's Diploma in Music Program.
Milton Carman, along with vocalist Shannon Carman, will perform songs from his upcoming musical comedy Bears, currently being work-shopped by the Oak Bay High Community Theatre Society and scheduled for production in fall 2004. Carman is not only an award-winning composer, but a former journalist, playwright, federal bureaucrat, and first Executive Director of the Ontario Arts Council.
Proceeds of this concert will support the Victoria Conservatory of Music Music Therapy Program.
