About

Rubblebucket

A spirited indie pop dance band with a reggae-pop past and a penchant for worldbeat and ska-infused arrangements that invoke names like Vampire Weekend, Brazilian Girls, Passion Pit, and Dirty Projectors, Brooklyn's Rubblebucket was formed in 2007 by musical couple Alex Toth (trumpet) and Kalmia Traver (vocals, saxophone) after the pair parted ways with the East Coast roots-reggae futurists John Brown's Body. They issued their debut album, Rose's Dream, under the Rubblebucket Orchestra moniker in 2008 and took to the road. The eponymous Rubblebucket followed in 2009, and found the band dropping the Orchestra part of their name, even as they grew in numbers. Full momentum was achieved in 2011 upon the release of their third long-player, the critically acclaimed Omega La La, which resulted in an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live and landed the song "Came Out of a Lady" in the indie comedy Drinking Buddies. Their 2012 and 2013 EPs, Oversaturated and Save Charlie, respectively, brought more attention, culminating in the release of 2014's Communion Records-issued Survival Sounds.
