ABKHAZI GARDEN

1964 Fairfield Road Victoria BC
Hours: 11am-4pm
since 2000
Abkhazi Garden is a 1.4-acre oasis of stunning west coast design, owned and managed by the Land Conservancy of British Columbia (TLC), a non-profit organization. In 2000, the TLC with community support saved the once-private garden from redevelopment as townhouses and preserved this special part of Vancouver Island.
The storied history of the garden is tied closely to a great love story between Prince and Princess Abkhazi, who led dramatic lives of trauma and privilege, before settling in Victoria and creating their garden in 1946. The couple tirelessly worked together on their creation for over 40 years, referring to it as “their child.”
The garden is built on glaciated rocky slopes and includes magnificent Garry oaks, 100-year-old rhoddodendrons, gorgeous vistas and woodland plants
