After 40 years of continuous operation CYMC has made a very significant impact on musical development locally, nationally and internationally. Because of the annual summer influx of renowned professional musicians, CYMC students have had access to teaching of very high caliber. Residents of the Valley have had the opportunity to attend performances of a standard usually available only in metropolitan centers. Nationally, every symphony orchestra in Canada includes musicians who have attended at least one of the intensive summer training sessions in the Comox Valley. Internationally, CYMC alumni can be found performing with major orchestras as Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, London and Berlin Philharmonic Symphonies.

One of the most exciting summer theatre programs in North America, CYMC Musical Theatre exists to bring a professional musical theatre creation and development experience right to the doorstep of aspiring triple theatre performers.

CYMC’s Pacific Jazz Workshop offers a unique and challenging journey into the heart of the jazz world. The program will appeal to instrumentalists who wish to expand their knowledge and hone performance skills. Pacific Jazz offers instruction in jazz improvisation, ensemble and big band, history and theory, composition and arranging, instrumental sectionals, plus jam sessions, and exciting faculty concerts. An all-star faculty led by award winning music educator, Dave Proznick, consists of leading Canadian jazz artists presently working in the business. Mr. Proznick has assembled this faculty keeping in mind that not all great jazz players are “good teachers”. This faculty is comprised of jazz musicians concerned with the future development of this wonderful art form called “JAZZ” and value this privilege to work with and mold our future Canadian jazz artists. PACIFIC JAZZ WORKSHOP gives each student attending an extraordinary opportunity to learn with one of the masters of their specific instrument.
