i had the "pleasure" of listening to this album awhile back. Not the whole thing, because it is In Flames new stuff which I really don't consider it worth my time (i did skip though every track). It sounds like theyre vaguely trying to make up for Reroute To Remain with a slightly more "agressive" record. Well the album is really about as "agressive" as Anders looks huddled up with his hand on his head in all those promo shots (*coughjohndaviscough*). Anyways, the album is better than Reroute, if you are a die hard In Flames fan you'll probably pick this up just because it's them. I can't stand the album, but as they say one man's trash is another man's treasure.

It's funny though I was talking to my Swedish friend the other day and he told me all the kids who listen to In Flames in Sweden are little 12 and 13 year old dirty skate kids...go figure. - Wed, 7 Apr 2004 9:32pm

I too have had the "pleasure" of listening to their new shit, and contrary to nick, who knows as much about music as an aborted dolphin fetus, this is a decent recording. because it was made by in flames, who are actually a good band. Unfortunately, anders violates the record with his stupid talking parts where there should be singing.

As a self proclaimed "diehard" in flames, this is not a dissapointing album to me, though there are a few completely worthless songs. Also, i should do vocals for them, cause Anders obviously doesnt know what he is doing. - Thu, 8 Apr 2004 9:38am

The other Nick is such a fanboy, he'd buy an In Flames album if it was all done with 80's keyboards and Anders was defecating all over the mic. save your cash and buy the new Dismember album, because it absolutely slaughters the past three In Flames albums. - Thu, 8 Apr 2004 1:01pm

Yeah, I still remember when I first heard the song 'biosphere' of their ep 'Subterranian' off a WAR-Records compilation and it ruled! Then I picked up 'Colony' the next day and I fucking loved it...everything up to 'Clayman' is great, but yeah, I'm not into their newer stuff...it's just like rock to me now...not that I hate rock, I really like some rock.
Take Amorphis for example, I love the progressive rock direction they took, 'Tuonela' was the first album I heard and I absolutely loved it! But In Flame's newer stuff is just too 'pop-y' or something, I dunno, just not my thing... - Fri, 9 Apr 2004 3:02pm

Too many keyboards and a stagnant song writing formula when it comes to their heavier stuff. - Fri, 9 Apr 2004 3:13pm

I know what the Other Nick is talking about, it does have a handful of decent riffs. DECENT, not amazing. But all in all, I would never spend money on this nor would I care to hear it ever again. - Fri, 9 Apr 2004 7:31pm

Yeah it's a shame what seems to happen to a lot of great metal bands (Soilwork, Arch Enemy, In Flames) after they get more popular. I don't know what it is but it's like they have a sit down discussion and say, 'ok look guys, I think we need to tone down our musicianship a bit and start writing more boring songs that involve less of our talents.' I just don't get it... ESPECIALLY Arch Enemy... just trash... - Thu, 15 Apr 2004 2:20pm

You guys are all gonna hate me, but I like most of the changes that inflames has made. First off, adding in singing brings way more dynamics into the songs, and it makes the screeming seem so much more powerfull when he does use it. I find a lot of the vocal melodies on Clayman and the previous albums are way too manotonis (I know I can't spell) and predictable. Also, I think Inflames has totally turned down the cheeze factor on their guitar riffs for the better. When I first heard Inflames "reroute to remain", it really got me into metal, but now I've realised that bands like Inflames and Soilwork aren't really metal. I don't know what they are, but I like it. - Thu, 15 Apr 2004 10:44pm

That's the thing right there, for me the "cheesiness" was the whole thing they had going for them... widdley-widdley guitar leads and gallops... solid gold.

On the other hand old Arch Enemy sounded... technically correct but with no soul. They got no heart, man. And their new stuff is cack. - Sat, 17 Apr 2004 9:45am

Yeah Wages of Sin is the last album in my Arch Enemy collection. Damn that had some great albums with burning bridges and stigmata. Gotta love Ammot. - Thu, 22 Apr 2004 1:34pm

Sonething tells me that chris hasn't heard Whoracle or The Jester Race , you don't need to start the slow clean shit to have dynamics man...

The older ones are much more dynamic then the new ones..

In my humble opinion of course...

And try listening to Subterrainan/Lunar Strain !!!

The only thing thats not so metal anymore about em' is reroute and everything after, its just dumbed down pablum to spoonfeed to the masses...
Again, thats just my humble opinion.. - Thu, 22 Apr 2004 3:57pm
