Requiem For the Record Store
Downloaders and discounters are driving out music retailers

Could the same thing happen to local independants like Turntable Records, Ditch Records and Lyle's Place? - Sat, 7 Feb 2004 2:24pm

i dunno what people expected. they shoulda figured it out ahead of time. shows you the state of the music industry these days...

and the prices for cds are outrageous here. i saw a satryicon cd for fucking 32.99 at HMV, what the fuck is that? and 22.99 is still pricy for lyles (not ragging on that wonderful store at all.) but why are cds priced so goddamn expensive? especially the good metal stuff? - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 12:58am

Fuck that, I get awesome deals at Ditch, their used shit is a lot cheaper than that bullshit at a&b. Plus I would much rather support a small local record store than a stupid chain. - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 2:30pm

buy direct!
if you buy from constellation records (godspeed you! black emperor, do make say think, etc.) the cd's are $14, LP's are $12, and EP's are $8.

great music that doesn't fuel the corporate middleman. - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 6:00pm

You work at A&B Blaire?!? Yeah I know Stephano who works there, I spend a lot of money every few month's, these days more on DVDs then CDs. That's too bad to hear about the layoffs, but explain something. How come they re-did the bottom floor?!? You used to buy CD walkmans there, but one day suddenly it was gone. - Mon, 9 Feb 2004 12:37am

Stefano quit?!? No wonder I haven't seen him in awhile. You working on the second floor right by the vinyl, or which department exactly? - Tue, 10 Feb 2004 11:33pm

individual choice is ALL that is important. Want to have a real cool record store like lyles or ditch sell real good music at affordable prices? Then dont support big business at all, ever, and suggest the same BEHAVIOR to your CIRCLE OF INFLUENCE. CREATIVE VISUALIZATION is the ONLY THING that WORKS. - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 9:24am

all the good metal bands i like are not mainstream. like take for instance a band like Drawn & Quartered. I like them alot, but their CD is ridiculously overpriced at Lyle's. If I somehow got their songs off of Kazaa for free i'd be cheating a small-time band. Theyre on Moribund Records, and they are an underground label. Underground bands need support. I dont feel bad about d/l anything on major labels, because theyre a joke. - Sun, 22 Feb 2004 6:30pm

I buy from those that need support. Or that I want to support. "Bigger" bands... I'm not as likely to buy their stuff, but then again, more of their stuff is available online too.
I love indie record stores anyways. - Tue, 24 Feb 2004 3:03pm
