Dr. Fuse User Info... | As much as I view the Toronto [corporate-indie] scene with revulsion, I've been impressed with uber-violinst and gay-hero Owen Pallett; specifically, his solo project Final Fantasy. Finally, the Canadian 'pop music' industry has an artist who combines avant-garde technique (changing time, weird bow technique) with a post modern pop sensibility, without the usual emarrassing 'fusion feel'. "He Poos Clouds", the latest from FF, was recently awarded a $20,000 'best album of the year' award. This is the first time I've been impressed by these sort of self-serving award ceremonies, which usually simply congratulate the industry arse-holes at the expense of the artists. And rarely have I heard an album which so convincingly, and consistently, expresses post-pop songwriting without the expected post-modern pop-pretention. I'm almost proud to be a string player. Thanks, Mr. Pallett! - Tue, 26 Sep 2006 7:57pm Edited: Tue, 26 Sep 2006 8:01pm | ||
