I have to say, I am not a fan of sludge. And when I heard that this album had sludgiesh elements I had to admit I was a bit repelled at first, but when I heard that Wrest (Leviathan) had involvement in this collaboration I became more open minded. Unfortunately I missed their Vancouver show, but had I managed to take a risk on this album....I'm so glad I did.

This is obviously not background music, or something to listen too intently to and overanalyze. This CD is a dark venture indeed, and they have managed to create a coarse atmosphere with it. I think maybe the reason why this album stuck out to me was because I've always been partial to early-era Godflesh ("Streetcleaner" is probably still the most cold, rash industrial album I've heard since '92.)

It has drone elements, it has sludge, but yet I find although some songs have repeated melodies they grow in a disturbing (not as in it sucks, but chilling) sense, and it feels although there are certain overtones/additional instruments to certain parts of the songs, they don't really even feel present until later on in the song, although I knew they were present earlier. I know that sounds so fucking ambiguous, but then again, I really don't think this album is concretely defined either! The cover artwork and inlay for crying out loud, the cover seems to depict the consumption of tissue, organic or flesh, I'm not certain, and the inside has multiple blank, black pages with an odd sigil on the bottom far corners. I can honestly say that this is an album that consumed me, rather than me consuming and analyzing it. And for that I'm impressed. - Thu, 24 Nov 2005 2:26am
