ska-t User Info... | they've released 2 ep's since this one.. L.A. Weekly - Tom Cheyney If the Slackers play “garage-reggae,” as their press release says, does this make them the White Stripes of ska, the Dirtbombs of dub, or even the Ramones of rock steady? Not bloody likely. These Big Apple boppers put a lick on a Jamaican groove like Hideki Matsui puts wood on a hanging curveball. They live large in their obsession with — and growing mastery of — the roots of all things reggae, with healthy slabs of rhythm ‘n’ booze, jazzbo and rockist tendencies thrown in. The production value on their latest CD, Close Your Eyes, ain’t slick, but it captures their unfettered energy, unerring skankability and playful anger to a tee. “Old Dog,” a sly take on aging, would liven up any yard party. “Real War” points a reverb-drenched finger at big-power Babylonians, while “Mommy” sounds like a lost Studio One tribute track. Given their well-deserved live rep, don’t expect these Slackers to procrastinate before mashing up the house http://www.epitaph.com/bands/index.php?id=325&ed_id=459#ed_459 - Tue, 31 May 2005 6:15am | ||
