shboom User Info... | So what band(s) did people see and where were they? How was your New Year's Eve in general? - Fri, 2 Jan 2009 4:08pm Edited: Fri, 2 Jan 2009 4:09pm
denny User Info... | I saw Bison @ The Sweatshop. Word on the street is that it was supposed to start at 9:30 and Bison would be on by midnight. Having to make an appearance at a party I still made sure to be there by 11:30 after nearly dying in the backseat of a car that we were treating like some kind of tiny clown car from the circus. So I caught two songs by Fear of Tomorrow and because I kept bumping into friends as I came in I couldn't really tell you what it was all about. All I know is it sounded good. Then the Joint Chiefs got up there played a song, did a count down or as the Americans would say 'the ball dropped', and then they continued on. We were standing right at the back so that might have hurt the sound quality but it seemed to me the vocals were way too loud, which led me to believe another couple of balls needed to drop. No, he was a good singer, just needed less of him in the speaker. Next I assumed Bison would be playing, but instead it was Grown Man, who boast three members of Jaws where the bassist sings, and the singer guitars, and it seriously ripped. I stood in a better spot, it sounded better, and it was over before I knew it. But check them out if you get the chance. Good times. Finally it was Bison's turn to rock, and guess what? They did. This was quite possibly the best round of Bison I'd ever seen. 'These are my dress clothes' & 'The Curse' back to back had me dancing like nobody was watching. And I'm guessing nobody was because this shit was going off. When they finished up they said 'Sorcerers up next,' and I said WHU?? It was still possible for me to see every band on the bill. Not bad for a guy who thought he was 2 hours late. Not that I thought it was going to actually start at 9:30 however and what happened between then and 11 is anyone's guess. But we left. I had to make sure I caught the bus home because I was just that drunk, and I know I would have fallen on the ice if I walked all the way home. A couple of times at least! The worst part about the show was that everyone was smoking ciggy's inside like it was going out of style, and this made for one killer hangover the next day. Nobody mentioned that smokin' ciggy's has gone out of style. But I think I'm just going to stick to typing about the music because you don't want to hear about the drunken antics. Put it this way, my friends and I were shitbag wasted, and between snowballs, pee, man dates, shit shots, clown cars and young girls on the bus, you need to know no more, other than it was New Years! - Sat, 3 Jan 2009 2:20am
