moron User Info... | Decided to check this out and was surprised that it was a different crew than the usual Logan's regulars, presumably all current U-Vic peeps slumming it with us uneducated types. The Metapop Orchestra turned out to be quartet mixing up bass clarinet (or oboe, not so up on my classical instrument variants), xylophone and other percussion, violin, theremin and didgeridoo. We got there about 10:30PM and missed the first set entirely unfortunately which meant we did not get to see any theremin action at all - BOOOOO! I hate that shows start at random times so often, earlier starts are totally cool I just wish they would be consistent with it is all so you know when to show up. Anyway, the second set we did see was rad. A weird mix of re-arranged rock standards (barely recognizable beyond a main riff here and there) and what appeared to be jams (since the music sheet was no longer being looked at). Very soundtrack feeling, somewhere between the more rocking Howard Shore stuff and something you would expect to hear in a Jim Jarmusch movie. Definitely cool to see this type of event happening at Logan's. Unfortunately, this was the single worst attended show I have ever seen at Logan's and that includes noise events I have put on far worse days than a Thursday evening. By about 11:30 I am fairly sure that me and my associate were the only two left in the bar not on the payroll. Bizarre. I am guessing that's due to an inappropriate cover (too high for a single unknown act) and total lack of promotion but who knows. . . Sound was decent though it could have just a bit louder so folks would talk over it less. The one other bit of suckage though I can forgive them considering the lack of attendance was the fact they quit well before midnight. I definitely could have handled more music from them. Hopefully these folks get another chance at the bar but this time either paired up with someone that will draw a bit more or at least get promoted better so it's not a total ghost town.
