Interesting show.

The opening band Immaculate Machine was really good. The three musicians in the band play really well with eachother and the songwriting is really quite good. Looking forward to their next performance.

There was some strange rumbling out of the left speak stack towards the end of their set. Sounded like a blown sub. The sound guy looked confused. I would have imagined he would just bypass it immediately but for some reason he kept it going. I saw people get up and leave because of this. Immaculate Machine played great despite the disturbance from the left stack.

The New Pornographers got up on stage and the sound came back on with the left stack rumbling. The crowd didn't like that the sound guys hadn't fixed this in the half hour they had, and started doing a bit of rumbling themselves, even some booing for the sound guys. Wow, the heat must have been on for them at that point! The New Pornographers looked confused, as they thought the crowd was booing them. But they started up anyway.

A few songs in the lead singer guy finally said "You guys were booing us when we got on stage..? That was so punk.. wow.. Um." This being my first time seeing them live I wasn't too sure what to expect. The keyboard/vocalist girl from Immaculate Machine appeared to be part of the band too, but it's impossible to say for sure because the band never introduced themselves. There was a tall guy with big hair who would sometimes come up on stage and sing. He was apparently drunk, as he never opened his eyes, and he had a beer in his hand every time he decided to join the band for a song. This must be normal as the band didn't bat an eyelash. Neko Case looked a bit blitzed herself, but it didn't seem to make a difference as her vocals were very very good. She would let out a scream after each song of "yeeeeeeeeeahhhhhhhh!"

They did a few encores, all of which were from their first album. I always like encores because the band is no longer playing what they "should" play (to promote a new album or single or whatever), they're playing what they want to play and the energy of this really comes through.

Interesting to hear 8 people in a rock band without a mess of sound. Looks like they were having a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun too, I would definitely go see them again.

This was my 3rd time seeing The New Pornos, and my kajillionth time seeing Immaculate, but my first time seeing either in a 'sit-down' theater atmosphere. I had amazing seats up in the box, so there.

Immaculate Machine was really great, as per usual. The new songs off of Fables sounded awesome, and I woke up the next morning with their song "Sea Legs" stuck in my head. There was some pretty funny stage banter coming from all three of them, and they pulled out a cover of The Zombies that was well done. I don't know if it topped their cover of Toxic, but it was close.

The rumbling speaker really didn't bother me any, I could only really hear it in between songs when the band was talking to the audience, although the sound guy probably should have been able to figure out a better solution.

The Pornos informed us that this was their first show playing with their new sign, which was hung above the drummer, and had a billion super bright lights, which the flashed on and off almost inducing several seizures, I'm sure. The stuff off of Challengers was awesome, and the older stuff was well liked as well. In fact the entire encore was songs from their debut album, and they were all very high energy.

All in all, it was a great show, and it was a treat to have all of the Pornos there, including Neko Case and Dan Bejar, whom the poster above called the "tall guy with big hair who would sometimes come up on stage and sing". - Sun, 16 Sep 2007 2:07pm

that show was so good. immaculate machine were amazing as always, and the new material is awesome. it's a shame they couldn't play longer cause they were really rockin, luke always impresses me and the songs are just so catchy and fun. hopefully they play again back home soon!! plus flasks for merch? dope.

the new pornographers totally blew me away. they sounded so good and the layers blended together so well. great harmonies and the drummer did not disappoint, and i was skeptical cause it was his first show with them and he has big shoes to fill. bejar was awesome and hilarious. one of those voices that you just can't describe but just sounds sooooo good. my only quips were that those bright lights on the sides were SAVAGE and it wasn't a venue where we could dance. aside from that, amazing show, and i hope they come back soon. - Sun, 16 Sep 2007 7:23pm
