ALL AGES Food Not Bombs benefit to help raise funds for
supplies that are needed over the winter...

Mechanical Seperation, BurywhatsDead, Benny Prole & TBA.
The show will be located at the new Jamaican Jerk House,
607 pandora street.

The bands will start around 9pm and the film will start at 7pm
(outdoor food serving at around 7pm too, or so i hear).
I'm not sure what film will be showing,
as there were a few choices but you can guarentee it
will focus on a current societal problem...
such as homelessness/poverty.
The price is 5$ or 4$ with a non perishable food item.
So come out and show your support!

Hmmmm, seemingly no one coming out to support a good cause, WHAT A SURPRISE!

Fucking massively awesome scene we got going in this town, DRUNK PUNKS (also known as sexists)that care more about hockey than social change (AWESOME!), DEATH METALlers that care more about working out than fighting the sexism & homophobia running rampant amongst their peers, STRAIGHT EDGE basketball-jerseycore kids that stay sober not so much so they can fight the oppressive elements of our corrupt society, but rather....... Wait a minute why do they stay sober? So they can shop more? I'm just going to go ahead and call Hardcore Sweatshop-supportercore from now on. And finally INDIE kids (also known as art fags but not all indie kids are art fags) that care more about looking hip (and pretending to have depth) than ........ Well, anything. Oh and lets not forget SKA kids, well on second thought, lets.

Buncha jocks straight across the board (with the exception of art fags).

What about me you say?
Fine, i'm an ambientblackmetal/doom/sludge/avantgarde fag: Too jaded (or is it misanthropic?)to be an activist, too stoned to put out a political 'zine and too frustrated (or honest?)to trick quality bands into playing this town.

The moral is, we all suck, but you guys more so than me, remember that. I'm going down to Johnny Zee's to play DDR, meet me there. - Thu, 1 Dec 2005 3:33pm

hmm..intersting. I wonder what ever happend to the Black Raven Anarchist bookstore? (is it open and i'm the last to know?) I know I played all three benefit shows with three different bands at Logans (and i'm not an anarchist). I know that apart from the people who came specifically to see the bands play (mostly friends etc) I never saw (ok..maybe one or two) any people i'd consider involved in the anarchist/political music scene there. I found it odd that even the anarchists/politically minded people in victoria couldn't bother to support a cause i would have thought really important to them. So why should you expect things to change now? The scene in victoria as most other places is clique as all hell, so whats important to you and your circle probably doesn't mean two shits to anyone else in town, music supporters or not. its like you never (or rarely) see the politcal/crust punks at a show in james bay. you rarely see the james bay crowd at burnside/hillside basement show...so what. i guarantee that this show will be under promoted/advertised, unless people happen to notice from this post or website. so what the hell can you expect... - Thu, 1 Dec 2005 5:10pm

waaahhhh waaah. the last few shows that have happened have been okay. so yeah, livevictoria isn't cutting it but you can get good all-ages turnouts at your precious crust/blackmetal/doom shows with some legwork. I've seen sold-out shows with completely unknown out of town bands with adequate postering and a good location. so we're short on those lately, let's find another. How many people makes it worthy for a band to come to town? Last time I checked it was even a small handful of people who actually appreciate the music. We're a handful of people ourselves, and even though I'm sure you don't believe it there are people in this town who you aren't friends with that appreciate this music too. More is better obviously, but do you cry about it when the turnout is small? These people you were shit-talking up above stopped coming to our shows anyways, so mission accomplished there. Apparently poseurs don't like grind. - Thu, 1 Dec 2005 7:16pm

I'd come to any crust/doom/grind/wahtever shows if they're all ages not on a weekday... I live out near swartz bay, and I can't drive, so I kinda have no way of getting home most of the time. - Thu, 1 Dec 2005 10:01pm

Why does everyone hate me? Is it because last show i told everyone that we didn't break even, took the money and blew it all on Cradle of Filth merch? - Fri, 2 Dec 2005 7:24pm

I might come out for this show! Nev & I need to get the beta sites done, so I may get to see Behemoth (which I couldn't afford last month), and BWD too. More stoked about BWD! hope I can make it.

But damn, there goes my idealized fantasy of the entire Vic scene perpetually rocking out together to great bands. I felt bad after spreading my poison around in another thread, but now I feel a bit better - apparently I'm not going to the garden to eat worms alone! - Fri, 2 Dec 2005 7:35pm

Sati knows where it's at!

Just like vancouver there are a handful of inbred underground bands in this town that totally rule, but the rest of the scene is pretty much shit, if i may be so bold. - Sat, 3 Dec 2005 1:39pm

That must have been my co-workers plan. She spent over a hour curled up in a little ball of pain. I couldn't get anyone to cover for her so even she didn't get to go.

It was good. Great turnout. Fair priced show.

Benny Prole opened up with some nice acoustic folk songs. It was a little quiet but I think it was pretty cool.

Bury Whats Dead played, and people really dug it. It's a shame that they are taking a bit of a "hiatus". The band needs more recognition than they get.

Mechanical Separation had a new guitar player. They sounded spot on chaotic. Tizdale's drumming is always a welcome sound to the ears. - Thu, 8 Dec 2005 2:09pm

Shit... that was soo much fun. A benifit show, and alot of new faces was rad too see. Ben Prole was just lame... Bens always lame... Always has to sing about shit and shit. Bury whats dead was awesome as usual. It really sucks they are stopping for a bit. The small venue was really nice considering theres not alot of them in vic anymore. speaking of which, did we loose that one too? - Fri, 9 Dec 2005 6:42pm

That was the type of show I love.. small/awkward venue, scraped together sound, cool staff, seriously stoked packed in crowd, affordable, a good cause, great bands. Two really great bands! I agree, there really should be more hype around BWD. I couldn't hear the vocals at all though and guitars were light too, that ws frustrating but even then I got enough to be as into it as lst time, drums were heard loud & clear and rule! - they've gotta come out here. MechSep - I can't believe they were kind of off my radar, I'd sort of forgotten them (ridiculous!), I like that girl's bass feel and yes the drummers got something unique, easy to get into.
Really good meeting you guys, and some of you again during the visit (Brad, Jeff, Scott, Doug, Nik, Matt, there are a few more). Thanks so much for intro'ing yourselves, that was really nice! That show and behemoth made for my first real taste of Victoria and it was warm. I really needed it. - Sun, 11 Dec 2005 12:58pm Edited: Sun, 11 Dec 2005 1:02pm

I didn't make it out to this show but I did a bunch of free, unsolicited postering for it in James Bay, Oak Bay, and around Camosun College and Fernwood. Must be because I'm a "sweatshop-supportercore kid", whatever that's supposed to mean.
Glad there was a good turnout, I'm always happy to help FNB.
And what IS happening with Black Raven? I keep asking people to put together info tables for EVERY show I put on, but it seems no one is either able or willing to do it.
In future I'd also be happy to lend the use of my PA for a benefit show like this, providing that my mics don't get trashed. - Mon, 12 Dec 2005 10:12pm

Great show, good to hear Ben play acoustic, some good old songs, reminded me of sitting on the steps at 1330 all drunk and strung out. Good to see that the Sexists got along with the P.C. anarcho crowd, for all the shit talking that went on about our "shitty" scene there was some real comraderie going on. thats how shows are supposed to be if you ask me. very personal venue with good friends and good strangers rubbing elbows while listening to good tunes. Glad i finally got to be relatively sober when Mechanical played, ive wanted to see them properly for a while now. Good job guys, big thanks to the Jamaican Jerkl House, even if they did look like they were about to piss their pants when the pit got going. nothing broken, good times had by all, i too would like to know if theres a chance of using that venue again? - Tue, 13 Dec 2005 12:32pm

Wow it actually turned out to be a model all ages punk show, very respectful (as far as i saw), totally kick ass! No hassle from the gang in blue (no, i don't mean the E-town crypts) even with the fire dancing outside. Normally i would have been an little insulted to pay to hear dropkick murphies cover songs on the acoustic, but i was in good spirits and it was for a good cause so i bit my lip, sung along and had a good old time. Despite the lack of PA, Mechanical Sep rocked me, hope to see another show there in the future. - Tue, 13 Dec 2005 5:33pm

apart from the slight confusion over the PA(or lack there of) when the bands showed, i thought the show was great, well..personally thought the video was at least twice as long at the begining than really needed to be to get the point across, and with all the bloody in and outs- and that door...someone donate some WD-40 to the cause, cause that thing didn't stop screeching all night. anyways i was shocked at the crowd, and no doubt Brians totally selfless postering helped the turn out. fuck, it blows me away you did that, super cool of you. i personally thanked the owners of the venue at the end of the night, and told them that we appreciated them letting us into the space, and they even said they danced a bit to some of the songs! And come on people, lets not forget that this (now im making a slight assumption here) is a struggling Jamaican resteraunt in a shitty location, little/ no advertising budget, and its December. Im thinking that there was enough beer sold for them to buy decent ear plugs for the next punk show they put on there. Im guessing that the revenue from this one evening surpassed the previous weeks earnings combined. i wonder if little dollar signs are popping into their heads thinking what they could have here, hell if they served jerk chicken wings and cheap swill, the place could be half packed on a regular basis. put that in your pipe and smoke it. - Tue, 13 Dec 2005 9:21pm
