Black Nativity, Seattle

| sealion User Info... | 2010 Moore Theatre, 13th year. Every year the best singers, dancers and musicians in Seattle's gospel community compete to join the group who perform Black Nativity, an early 1960s religious play told from an African-American perspective, using gospel music. Act 2 there is a testifying-style gospel church service. Anchored by a fabulous 5 piece band, and supported by dancers led by a Tony nominated (Colour of Purple) choreographer, the choir and soloists and a guest pastor delivered incredible performances that rocked the house. We heard absolutely breathtaking solos, superb bends and outrageous highs. Sounds bland enough, right? Well I teared up twice the solos were so good and honest. My daughter studies opera and heard a high note her circle can’t hit. It was world class home-made music. The band is not to be missed and can R&B, Zappa run, funk steady like Bootsy Collins, and hit it like Cab Calloway. We heard bout it word of mouth, went to see Picasso and added it as a why not, with tickets online, youtube has clips on it. The theatre goes back to vaudeville and was a 60s rock venue.
