sealion User Info... | Seen live in Tacoma by the Dome at the New Frontier bar (Logan's-ish) 4 bands $5 night last Friday. Little Penguins & A Leaf. Little Penguins do a killer offshoot of joy division-ish faster tempo music, but as a two guitars, bass and acoustic drums band. The singer has the look, sound and attitude of Curtiss. all original, polished, only cover was at the end when they rocked out on isolation. Good one if they come here. This is not a clone band or a pretend JD band, its something else, not a synth in sight, no drum machines or electronic drums or echoes efx etc. Logan's, book-em. Little Penguin's ep is selling fast. Also saw Tacoma's "A leaf" A bit of "carry that weight" meets early slow T-rex, interesting, hummable. 2 electric guitars, 1 acoustic, bass and fine drummer, two part harmonies. They have something uniquely Tacoma, which gave use Nekko case. I liked them, some members ahve been playing together 10 years and the old drummer has just come back to them from California. Also a plus. No cd yet. C'est le fin d'Mort, a goth band haven't learned that 6 on an amp instead of 10 gives the pa some room to work for them all. An incoherent mix emptied tables quickly. It made the pa person's work impossible. Too bad, they work the Cure meets Susie territory, maybe the room was to small dunno. I gave up and left. Good band mixed properly but not teh sound man's fault, it was teh band's fault. In Port Townsend I heard about some young band with serious talent (started playing bars at 14) called "burning mountain" but didn't see them at the Water Street Brewing Co, a former sailors and hookers dive in 1893, and a hippie commune/bar in the 1960s, now a brewpub with a good stage and eclectic mix of bands. They book rock/blues/world beat/and probably pish-ish Dead stuff. Other venue spotted, very folkie/duo or solo is the antique sandwich compabny in nisqually. I just liked it. - Sun, 6 Jun 2010 9:54am Edited: Sun, 6 Jun 2010 10:00am | ||
