Sanctibar User Info... | hey i'm not really computer literate...i just got a comp and was wondering what would be a good affordable/decent sounding way to record guitar onto my computer...do i need a direct box? i'm stumped. i'd appreciate some help...thanks - Tue, 7 Oct 2003 8:09pm
ender60 User Info... | you need an adaptor--1/4 female to 1/8 male to plug your guitar into your sound card first!! then you need software to record what you play!! ez cd creator has software for this(soundstream) so does nero and goldwave and dozens of others!! good luck!! - Tue, 7 Oct 2003 9:20pm
Rob User Info... | I'm no expert either, but i've heard that its super easy to fry your sound card plugging stright into it from a guitar, dont know why, but..?. What i do is plug my digitech multi fx pedal into my soundcard with a 1/8 inch male male cord, 2.00 at future shop. works like a dream, plus get lots of nifty effects before being computerized too much. - Wed, 8 Oct 2003 9:56pm
Mark User Info... | You won't damage your soundcard by plugging your guitar into it, however it may not sound too good either. Electric guitar amps use intentionally unresponsive speakers to smooth out some of the harsher harmonics that an overdriven electric guitar can generate. Generally speaking the best sound will come from either micing your amp, or using an amp emulator. If you're willing to spend a few bucks there're some reasonably inexpensive ways to get a good guitar recording on your computer. Digitech makes a pedal called the RPx400 and it will hook directly into the computer using the USB port, so it works as both an effects processor and an audio interface (you can plug a mic into it too if you want to ay down some vocals too). The Pod XT by Line 6 also has a USB out and will give you some great amp models as well as effects. Or, if those guys are a little rich for your blood the Sans Amp pedals from Tech 21 are a more affordable form of amp emulation. If your looking to keep it as cheap as possible the old right-into-the-soundcard trick, in which case all you need is sofware. There're various freeware/shareware programs that'll allow you to do basic recording, or some of the bigger sofware companies have scaled down or demo versions of their software available for download. Digidesign has Pro Tools FREE available on their site (www.digidesign.com), and I think Steinberg may have a demo of cubasis on their site, although I wouldn't swear to that (www.steinberg.net) - Thu, 9 Oct 2003 6:26pm
