VICTORIA BC SKA SOCIETY User Info... | Hey Guys, For anyone that knows: Do you know of any software that can be obtained to translate Japanese into English for e-mail? For a long time we get many Japanese bands e-mailing us to play shows but we can't understand anything they write... Even when we respond and say to make the e-mail in English it never works. When they translate the e-mail into English it just comes out in squares. Can anyone help refer us to any software that might help eliminate this problem? - Mon, 30 Jul 2007 10:04pm

sealion User Info... | Fonts coming out squares means you don't have some of the language fonts installed. If your using word make sure you have both sets of japanese fonts installed. Babelfish is about the best free route. When using it re-translate things back as a safety check. And watch out for special terms. Translating a French manual for MIDI (set the midi transmit channel )ended up with all these references to "set the afternoon of transmission chanel" or something like that. - Wed, 1 Aug 2007 12:21am
Mike User Info... | Yeah, the major problem of using translation programs is that most of them are not yet intelligent enough to translate grammar and subtextual intent from language to language. Honestly, you would be best off finding someone who knows both languages to translate this. Especially with musicians, who will tend to use a lot of slang, it will be almost unreadable without this... - Thu, 2 Aug 2007 7:49am
