tyler User Info... | fucking seriously tell me why? - Sun, 14 Jan 2007 8:09pm
Adrenaline Animal User Info... | well, hate to break it to ya, but not all bar shows are good either. - Sun, 14 Jan 2007 8:19pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | The upside to bar shows is usually having the decent venue and a good, large PA. Of course it's nice to have some drinks too. I've played really good bar shows and really good all ages shows. We all had to endure missing cool shows due to being underage for the hooch. We feel your pain, yet it's almost like paying your dues in a way. Once you can get into bar shows, I will bet that you won't think they are a big deal after the novelty wears off. Ultimately, the bands and the crowd make the show. So just keep on doing it! - Sun, 14 Jan 2007 8:55pm
trevor corey User Info... | I love seeing a big acts at bar shows not just for the talent but the acts usually have nice big, quality sound. After many stadium shows I apreciate the relative intimacy of a bar gig. Wether its a band like Strapping Young Lad, Sloan, Grady, or Kaos. Any genre of high quality is a great bar show. - Sun, 14 Jan 2007 9:21pm
DeadYeti1 User Info... | When I lived in Ottawa, we always had all ages and licensed shows. It always seemed like everyone had a blast, even if they weren't drinking, there was always that little alley out back of barrymores to blast fatties in. - Sun, 14 Jan 2007 9:36pm
joni User Info... | yeah, things are a bit different in ontario. there are a couple of venues here in ottawa that are able to double as bars and all-ages clubs (babylon is the most obvious choice), but those seem to be fewer and further between these days. barrymore's doesn't hold all-ages shows anymore, and club SAW seems to have pretty much given up on shows altogether... DeadYeti, how long ago were you living here? also, since ontario doesn't require two pieces of ID, it's easier to get into bars here if you are underage... in general, i found victoria to be a lot stricter than other places when it comes to ID. even toronto and montreal are both a total joke in comparison. as nice as it is to have a drink or two at a show, when it comes down to it i think i still prefer all-ages gigs. you know that the kids are really there for the music, and there always seemed to be a stronger feeling of community between the audience, the bands, and the promoters. maybe it's because all-agers seldom make much money, and consequently they're a labour of love and support as opposed to bar shows, which can turn a bit more of a profit. all-ages shows are also inclusive, so nobody's left out... i remember missings bands i loved on many occasions because i wasn't old enough to get in bars, and it was a real downer. as well, bands often seem to enjoy themselves more playing to an all-ages crowd. - Sun, 14 Jan 2007 10:29pm
DeadYeti1 User Info... | Joni, I'm talking about 8 or 9 years ago. (fuck that is a long time...) back when they had all aged/licensed at saw, barrymores, and that restaurant I totally forget the name of where straight faced would play. I think it started with an M. Please tell me that the dominion is still around though. - Sun, 14 Jan 2007 11:58pm

joni User Info... | of course the dominion is still around! and it's still as sketchy and punkrock as ever, don't worry. :) if you're talking eight or nine years ago, were they still having shows at 5 arlington then? and i suppose you probably already know this, but bumpers closed down too... - Mon, 15 Jan 2007 7:10am
DeadYeti1 User Info... | Yeah, Bumpers was my favorite. I loved playing there. so thrashy....... what about the underground where sunnyside sports bar was? I remember two great things about the underground. 1. how the same couches seemed to live longer in the space than any business ever did. 2. seeing misconduct with there being only 20 people at the show and getting smashed with the boyz and singing our little hearts out. That's great about the dom though. You had me sweating. - Mon, 15 Jan 2007 10:42am
