ticklefish User Info... | email me at [email protected]. I have a DAW (digital audio workstation) that I have been running for a year and a half, and can point you in the right direction. In general, you need the following (some of it may exist already): soundcard some sort of monitoring system. recording software You need to hook your guitar to the line-in of the soundcard. You can either go direct with a 1/4" - 1/8" cable (if this is the input type on the soundcard), or other such adapter. But, for overdubbing, you need to be able to monitor what you are playing and hear what you have recorded. The most common method is a simple mixer where you plug the outs of the mixer into the input of the soundcard, and the outs of the soundcard into one of the ins of the mixer. Next, if you want to record vocals as well, or record the guitar with a mic (micing an amp sounds much better than a line-out from an amp), then you need some sort of mic preamp. Soundcards like Soundblasters (likely what you have) have mic inputs, but the mic preamp in the soundcard is really cheap and sounds like shit, so the mixer helps here again by giving you a better preamp. Depending on exactly what you want to do, and wht kind of budget you have, I can give you a lot of options on things to buy/how to hook things up. - Wed, 8 Oct 2003 9:20am | ||
