Styles we are playing/combining/writing: Greek, samba, hip hop, reggae, canto, jazz, and ska.

Influences: Cat Empire, Burning Spear, Tito Puente, World Beat, Sublime, Mad Caddies, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, etc.

Players we have: DJ, djembe player, percussion/big band vocals, two trumpets and sax/keys/ operatic-quality vocals( first chair tenor in uvic choir! wowee. kind of shrew-lookin though..DONT HIT ME CAIRAN! Guitar player with an Ibanez archtop and THE fro.

Players we need to start really bringing out the music we really want to create: A drummer who enjoys all types of rhythms and doesnt mind a percussion section breaking into solos with 'im. One who is preferably jazz-trained and 19-24....We invite all writers to the table. Thanks! Hope to hear from you! - Mon, 20 Sep 2004 12:42am

hello, I am not 19-24 or jazz trained but you mentioned more not-jazz bands in your ad, and I am hungry to play sum music so I thought I'd respond to your ad, looks like I'm the first. not tons of choices in this town for drummmers, or bands for that matter.

anyways, I am 29, I play drumset, djembe, dijeridoo, conga, and other percussion. I enjoy and can play reggae, funk, world, electronic-ish, blues, am reasonably jazzy and can read music a little, but more just have a natural touch for rhythm and soloing etc.

sum of the bands that have influenced me are bob marley, burning spear, grateful dead, miles davis, frank zappa, beastie boys, ben harper, zakir hussain, antibalas, xavier rudd (catch him october 23rd..!) .., the police, hendrix/band of gypsies, and many other 'greats' and not-as-known musicians and projects. I'd be at home playing to a club, a pub, a folk fest, a party, or a stadium....I have a fair amount of time to play music; tho I am trying to get my own computer repair biz on the go... know anyone that needs affordable help with their PC...? ;-)

let me know if u still need sumone, want to get together, if I'm older than the guy u want, or whatever.., after reading my message. thanx for your time, gotta fly!
