_Griphin_ User Info... | http://www.cjnews.com/viewarticle.asp?id=8643 I saw this documentary tonight (I always miss the opening), and after seeing that, I can honestly say I was really fuckin' lucky!!! I'd LOVE to see his solo choreography (sp?), it looks really cool. I had peralysis, but nothing like this: Braindamadj’d includes footage of the early days of his rehabilitation that spares nothing of Nadler’s reduced being. His paralysis was so extensive that he had to be strapped into his wheelchair to stay upright. He stared vacantly and drooled. He had double vision and slurred speech. I had double vision (man that drove me up the wall seeing 2 soccer players (really it was only one player) and I also slurred. In fact, many people who met me thought I was drunk and still do (I wish :). - Tue, 5 Dec 2006 11:31pm Edited: Wed, 6 Dec 2006 1:50am
Mofo User Info... | Looks really great. Having read this story and other ones like this that attest to personal truimph, it never ceases to amaze me how much we take things for granted. And I always find myself questioning if I would have the same iron like will. I guess you never know until you find yourself in that type of situation. Can't wait to see it on CBC. - Thu, 7 Dec 2006 1:54pm
Laprider User Info... | The human brain is an odd thing....this is a true story. Spring Break grade 10 (82?) a friend of mine is drunk and falls backwards off a 10 ft. balcony and cracks his head. He suffered brain damage and although for the most part fine, I guess it would be an accurate discription to say he was now "slow". About 10 years later he was in a accident in a volkswagen van and ended up whacking his head on a telephone pole, after coming out of a doctor induced coma his brain function had returned to what it was 10 years before he fell off the balcony....that is weird stuff - Thu, 7 Dec 2006 2:09pm
Mofo User Info... | kinda like that guy back in the 1800's...Phineas gage, I thing his name was, he had a 13 pound spike go right through his brain and he still lived. Its a pretty cool story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phineas_Gage - Fri, 8 Dec 2006 9:40am
_Griphin_ User Info... | When you've had a brain injury, you're never the same. They put me into a drug induced coma for a week after the assault as well, difference is Paul was in a coma and they had to play him music and read to him to get his brain to wake up, and I still can't remember the first month (I still can't remember the entire day it happened (the only reason I knew I was at the 5th street was cause I found the receipt in my wallet)). A friend of mine got into a car accident a few years ago, they thought he was OK from it, however he's fucked up for life. Scary!!! But yeah, I might slur and act drunk when I'm not, but at least I'm not in a wheelchair (so how many clubs in Victoria are wheelchair accessable?!?) - Fri, 8 Dec 2006 12:23pm Edited: Fri, 8 Dec 2006 12:38pm
Sati User Info... | wow, Griphin, I didn't know you slur & act drunk cuz of it. I've never met you. There's a guy I see at shows a lot who's difficult to understand that way and a lot of people don't talk with him cuz of it, but I do cuz he makes total sense once you make the effort to get past the disability. It does take a LOT of effort though, especially in loud rooms etc. I've lost my patience a few times though, cuz he does drink and then he doesn't make as much sense, hahaaaa. Anyway, I've never asked what his story is. - Fri, 8 Dec 2006 1:07pm
