Chopper User Info... | http://www.vancouversun.com/entertainment/movie-guide/Piracy+case+could+change+Canadian+landscape/1407312/story.html If this is successful, say buh bye to search engines. Yes even google. - Sat, 21 Mar 2009 2:16pm
Jl User Info... | but like they said in the article about VHS, Google cant be held responsible for what people "could" do. I dont think this will go anywhere, which is why it never came to the forefront. But I could be terribly wrong. Nevertheless, Isohunt sux ballz anyways. - Sat, 21 Mar 2009 4:54pm
Chopper User Info... | You mean betamax. The Sony vs Universal case was stateside and had no bearing on Canadian law. The world has changed a lot since that case reared it's ugly head 26yrs ago. You also can't compare copying something to a tape to digital distribution. And if good old DAJ can win a completely useless case, I don't think that this succeeding is that far fetched. - Sat, 21 Mar 2009 5:44pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | I have absolute faith in Isohunt and their lawyers squirming out of this one. Long live torrents! - Sat, 21 Mar 2009 6:44pm
Chopper User Info... | It's not Isohunt that has to do the squirming as they were the ones who launched the action against the CRIA. And it's not really this case that matters, it's the questions raised during the hearings that are the problem. - Sat, 21 Mar 2009 7:39pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | Whatever happens, the only way they can stop illegal downloading is to shut the entire internet down. People will always spend way too much time figuring out ways to get stuff for free. - Sat, 21 Mar 2009 10:04pm
BBJones User Info... | All it means is advertisers may need to find new ways to annoy us all. Don't be surprised if you start seeing ads on everything forcing you to interact with them. Remember TIVO? The awesome device that made it so you could record TV and auto-skip commercials then watch playback in peace and quiet far from the invasive pushiness of advertising? Well, a while ago it seemed that advertisers made it illegal to auto-skip (or forced this feature to be removed), as well as they built in pop-up advertising so you had no choice but to interact with their ads. Advertisers have the money to change laws and make the world operate in a way that benefits them. If there is a way around it all that becomes popular enough, have no doubt that it will change in their favour. At least this is promising... http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/03/22/why-advertising-is-failing-on-the-internet/ - Tue, 24 Mar 2009 7:50am Edited: Tue, 24 Mar 2009 8:06am
Tyler User Info... | shaw cable still offers the PVR which is pretty much the same as TIVO but a different brand, I guess. anyway, my roommate's girlfriend is all about skipping the commercials. there's no way to automatically do it but it's easy to just fast foreward or jump a few minutes ahead then rewind. I'm not down with that though. some commercials are great. for example, the mcdonalds filet of fish commercial. brilliant. - Wed, 25 Mar 2009 9:37am
Curmudgeon Rocker User Info... | I'll go with the voodoo doll guy whose car had coffee spilled on it. The techcrunch link reminded me, among other more pertinent things, of an ATHF episode where the pop-up ads go out of control, featuring the classic message that indicates if you click on "cancel", the tiny print below it will say otherwise, and sign you up anyway. - Fri, 27 Mar 2009 3:33pm
