Hang The DJ User Info... | I think we should get rid of the penny. It's only used so that companies/businesses can fool people into thinking things are cheaper, ex: $9.99 to the average customer looks more like 9 dollars than 10. And all those who work/ have worked in retail know.. "Do you have a penny?"... "I think I have an extra penny in here somewhere".... "Keep the penny". Completely pointless. On senior's day at my work (Value Village... w00t) senior's always get confused (what? Seniors confused?) because they think the 9.99 is 99 cents... Yeah your shoes are 99 cents... fuck... then they don't want them even though they get 30% off... but that's another post about OLD PEOPLE. And sorry if this post has been done before, I'm just waiting for my photos to upload (which they are... very very sloooooooowly). Have a nice day. - Sat, 7 Jun 2008 9:48pm
Aidan Logins User Info... | Why is this in the controversy and quarantine section? I'm pretty sure no one cares about keeping the penny. The metal that it's made out of is worth more than the penny, talk about a manufacturing loss. But then again we're supposedly heading in to a recession, so maybe the penny being useless is only temporary. - Sun, 8 Jun 2008 8:19pm
::Saint:: User Info... | If we got rid of the penny I guess all sale would be in multiples of 5 cents, which I could live with. Would make the math much easier ;) Speaking of Hang the DJ and Value Village - was cool to see you there the other day! Keep up the good work! Also, you are very tall! - Sun, 8 Jun 2008 11:31pm
Sailor User Info... | Yeah it was cool to meet you after seeing you on livevic on the embarassing post I had up for a while.... ugh Yep, I'm preeeeetty tall..... it's really awesome. As for the penny... well.. next time I won't post stuff I think/care about, or anything at all. Done and done. - Tue, 10 Jun 2008 8:40pm
Tyler User Info... | I'm willing to bet this won't happen in the next 50 years. I also don't think it's a great idea. maybe the penny itself could take a cheaper form in production, but I'm sure any commerce or economics student would flip out about it being impossible to get rid of the penny entirely. to you, it's just a couple pennies of difference in the cash drawer. to the higher management at the corporate headquarters, it adds up to huge amounts of money. you might argue, why not just round up then? but then everything starts costing more. what about companies that produce small items at $.03 each, in quantities of millions? this whole "get rid of the penny" thing becomes something that could destroy businesses. I'm sure my examples aren't the best but you can see what I'm getting at - it's a way bigger issue than it being inconvenient to you. I bet there are articles that are way more well researched than my rambling. - Thu, 12 Jun 2008 1:13am

J. Peatman User Info... | I remember when Holland got rid of their pennies and adjust all their prices to a nickel. It was liberating. And it worked because all tax is included in the price. Then they introduced the fucking Euro, and with it one and TWO cent coins...to much frustration. And a couple of years later they got rid of the penny coins again. Back to rounding off prices. Ofcourse EVERYTHING has gotten more expensive with the introduction of the Euro, but that's another sad story. If Canada would start including tax in retail prices, it would make it a lot easier to phase out the penny. I'm no economist, but I'd rather pay 2 cents more on every other purchase than walk around with half a pound of change in my wallet every day. - Sat, 21 Jun 2008 10:58am
Zedius User Info... | Word. And I was thinking about the things that cost 3 cents and are sold in large volumes... at least for electronics the components don't exactly cost 3 cents. It's $30 for 100. I can't think of any good reason tax shouldn't be included in prices. - Sat, 21 Jun 2008 10:00pm
Spinvis User Info... | Agreed with J.Peatman. .. Gotta miss the guilder.. damn euro. - Mon, 23 Jun 2008 3:50pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | Yes! Round up the prices of retail purchases and include tax in this which will generate more tax revenue, then either put that money where the PUBLIC decides, or cut taxes elsewhere for the working class. And fuck the penny. - Mon, 23 Jun 2008 10:48pm Edited: Mon, 23 Jun 2008 10:48pm
