Message Board > Music Chitchat - Heavy > Youth Plague 'Zine/Dayglo's Trivia |
_Griphin_ User Info... | Sometime last year, someone gave me photocopies of a local 'zine produced in the early 80's called Youth Plague (anyone remember it?!?). Eventually I plan to transcribe the interviews into HTML format and get it hosted on a non-Trip0d server, but I thought I would post an except of a Dayglo's interview, where the original idea for the tune "East Indian" was discussed. Enjoy... Source: Youth Plague, Issue #4, April 82 --- Cretin: Well the thing is that people are taking this song 'I Wanna Be An East Indian' all wrong. Its like the expression "When you look like you're washing your hands you're really pissing in the sink!" Its a cynical view, of a song, I Wanna be an East Indian. They think that we are saying that we don't want to be East Indians. We "were" being a little brash when writing the songs! Tim: Well how did you come about the song? Cretin: Well its a....... we saw this painting on, what school was that? Jesus: (looks up from H.S. again) Renolds School!! Cretin: Renolds School..... Jesus: It said 'Punk Rock is East Indian!' Cretin: It said 'Punk Rock is East Indian' and we saw this and it was hillarious 'cause it was like some guy who hated East Indians....... Jesus: And hated Punk!!! Cretin: and hated punk rock so he wrote Punk rocks East Indian! So we said what it is about being a minority. Right now we are members of a three person minority. (uneasy laughter) Tim: Yeah. Cretin: Lot of active publicity.... Jesus: People are getting really... Cretin: But it's pretty interesting, because this is only happening in Canada, alot of people like it! Tim: Oh yeah, I think its really bitchin. I think its "the" best piece of hardcore that has ever come from Victoria! --- Nuff said, peace... - Tue, 30 Sep 2003 11:42pm | ||
