JULY 26th, 2006 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - PLEASE POST & FORWARD

RUFUS' ISLAND GUITAR SHOP NEWS

RUFUS STEWART ANNOUNCES SEMI-RETIREMENT PLANS & BIG SALE!!!

Many of you are familiar with legendary luthier Rufus Stewart, and his wee shop here in Cook Street Village - Rufus' Island Guitar Shop. Rufus has been repairing and restoring fine stringed instruments since 1965, and has operated shops in Halifax, Kingston, Montreal, Vancouver and finally here in Victoria. It as been a long and winding road, full of fabulous music, great friendships; fretted and otherwise, and countless instruments sent out the door in much better shape than they arrived. The quality of his work is renowned, while his compassion and understanding of a musician's needs have made him many allies in professional and amateur music circles. Rufus is seriously grateful for all of the support, referrals and kindness he has encountered over the years on his journeys across this great country and at home - wherever that happened to be at the time. Thank you everyone.

But there comes a time when a man should reap what he has sown, and take some time to enjoy life in the slower lane. And so, without further ado, we announce Rufus' shift into semi-retirement.

That said, please note the prefix 'semi'. Retirement just isn't a word we can use when describing how Rufus is likely to be spending his time. A bit of a work-o-holic (in the finer sense of the word) Rufus has many interests and endless energy when caught up in a task. From sailing to yard-saling, to spending as much time as possible with his sweetheart Charlotte and their family. He has many fabulous things to do besides being strapped to his work bench.

But don't you go thinking he has hung up his tools for good, not by a long shot. Rufus will continue to work on select instruments and supply warranty service for Martin, Taylor & Oskar Graf - just on a much lighter scale. You can set up an appointment by phone or email (no drop ins please), and we will see what he can do to facilitate your needs, or refer you to someone who can. Rufus will also entertain the notion of teaching and workshops, as it would be fitting that he pass on his extensive and specialized knowledge of stringed instruments to the next generation of luthiers.

And of course, there will be a BIG SALE. While we do intend to continue to sell the odd vintage guitar, mandolin or banjo via the web site and private sale, there are many items currently in stock that need to find new homes. Mark your calendars as the deals won't last for long, and most everything must go - with 10% to 50% off. We have acoustic & electric guitars, mandolins, accordions, amps, pickups, hard & soft cases, capos, tuners, and accessories of all kinds. Plus great student items for the school year, from guitars to stands, and lots of lots of strings!

SALE! Tuesday August 8th to Saturday August 12th - Noon to 7pm - 212 Cook St. Victoria - 386-1399

For workshop and teaching inquires, please do not hesitate to contact me, as I will be his agent. [email protected]
