Sequoyah Ade 5.27.2006 “You’re not so blind with patriotism that you can’t face reality. Wrong is wrong, no matter who does it or says it.†- Malcolm X Let’s begin with an ethical concept current standing American President George W. Bush has never, within his long and substantially blotted career ever employed to any practical degree. I’m going to commence this article with full disclosure from the very start. I am not an American, at least not in the commonly accepted usage of the term. I am someone for whom the presumptuous ideal of “America†equates immediately to something more akin to passive totalitarianism. For the 500 countries destroyed in the wake of the European exodus to the promised lands of the southern and northern Americas, totalitarianism under a Eurocentric government is a way of life. Our cultures and independence, despite the howls of acquiescent Natives who proudly proclaim that “We are still here,†are functionally non-existent. Hooping and hollering in today’s commercialised Pow-Wow circuit is not evidence of a sustainable people. Neither is a doll made up to look like a Dine’ code-talker or the mega-corporation Disney’s revisionist cartoon for children and adults alike, Pocahontas. Real independence or sovereignty as the people Americans insist on labelling “Indians†like to call it in our pitiful excuse for a Native press is after all the killings, rapes, boarding school indoctrination and forced sterilisations a long forgotten dream. We talk often about how proud, independent and patriotic we are, towards White America anyway. Our loyalties to our own agendas reside in a special place in our spirits but not our minds. The wish to be truly free from White settler control and the perpetual genocide we endure has been viciously beaten out of us by the weight of Eurocentric numbers, military power and more importantly, American imposed self-colonialization. This isn’t to say that there aren’t those of us who love being who we are and know the real deal concerning real Indians and cowboys past and present, but let’s be real. We exist within a web of imposed illusions by an overwhelmingly brutal and avaricious population of Europeans bent on reshaping the planet in line with their own narrow paradigms of White perspective. Having said that, the no-frills version of America as a colonialist and imperial state that has managed to effectively surpass ancient Rome is without question a factual reality borne out by the incipient horror of the facts. Ask any honest person Indigenous to the Americas, your local history teacher or any Iraqi citizen not yet killed by American military personnel. Not that this reality is much talked about let alone discussed as serious history. It isn’t. But the factoid that America as a democratic, humanistic beacon of enlightenment is a patently false facade perpetuated by openly bigoted Europeans emotionally driven to purge the historical record of their monstrous deeds towards their fellow human beings goes unmentioned. Americans, desperate enough to deny their own record of Indigenous genocide, African slavery and imperialist control over other, significantly weaker nations and populations readily adopt and adapt to state propaganda that frankly, tells them that they are good people doing the entire world a favour. The Bush administration survives in large part due to this quasi-theological mythology of American Exceptionalism, the idea that White makes Might. If the Indians died out due to outright murder by zealous White settlers, it’s because they were an inferior race, not the fault of the poor, freedom seeking and innocent Christian Europeans. Some American historians go so far as to imply that Indians simply “disappeared†due to our inherent racial and cultural inferiorities rather than the end results of a sweepingly belligerent White racist push to eradicate the Indigenous population. So it should be no big surprise that the American government and its supposedly free thinking, allegedly democratic-loving public that upholds that office can sit idly by while the Bush gang runs roughshod over the American Constitution and basic civil and human rights at home. When White Americans express shock and disbelief that the rest of the conscious world views them as bastards, I wonder, do they ever think about their own history? Even if one does not want to review the past, the present offers more than enough fodder for the inquisitive American mind. After the racially biased elections of 2000 and 2004 in several states, debt to China and others “ungodly†national treasuries, the leaking of the Downing Street memorandum, the clear lack of WMD’s in Iraq, the open embrace of the Ku Klux Klan via the Minutemen and other White Supremacist elements in the U.S., the Abu Ghraib torture leak, the Guantanamo Bay torture leak, the blatant and state sponsored corruption of big business, the outing of CIA operative Valerie Plame to draw blood from her husband professional diplomat Joseph P. Wilson who chose not to lie for his government and its multinational corporate sponsors, the curtailing of EPA rules that defend the environment, The Terri Schiavo fiasco, more than 2.2 million Americans in correctional facilities across the country (Europeans make up less than 2% of the entire prison population) Evangelical nutcase Pat Robertson publicly calling for the assassination of a foreign head of state with no repercussions, the CIA’s extraordinary renditions throughout the world, the illegal and unconstitutional wiretapping of all communications within the United States by the NSA and the fact that speaking out against the abuses levied by this administration against the entire planet as well as American citizens may place a openly questioning dissident in dangerous straights with the secret police, (a safe assumption being that John Negroponte is the sole head of ALL American intelligence) and now with the U.S. maintaining a militarised southern border that even the Canadians are openly touting as racist and you have all the makings of a U.S. styled classically fascist state built, preserved and codified by the dictates of Kipling’s ode to White power. None of what I have mentioned is new news. Only, no one and I mean no one aside from the more radically political elements on the much maligned and disintegrated organised left who called this what it was years ago, is willing to say out loud that the United States has slipped into a fiercely corporate model of governance Benito Mussolini would be amazed by for it sheer immensity. Unlike the godfather of state run corporatism, George W. Bush has at his disposal the most massive and invasive media machine ever known in the history of mankind and the sincere loyalty of those just as intolerant, narrow-minded and blinded by an outdated and truthfully non-European faith as himself and his conspiracy-driven helpers. Let’s cut to the chase. George W. Bush is a liar and a bad one at that. He said that although there were “irregularities†in his election bids, he and his supporters maintain that his presidency is wholly legitimate. G.W. Bush told the American public that Iraq and Saddam Hussein personally was an close ally of Osama Bin-Laden and that the British fabricated Iraqi state posed a clear and present danger to the United States and the rest of the capitalist world despite the fact that Iraq never at anytime ever threatened the U.S. or possessed the capability to effectively attack U.S. soil or other off-shore pecuniary interests. G.W. Bush along with the rest of his corrupt hand-picked cabinet fixed false facts to support their policies in order to wage an anti-terrorist “war†against two sovereign nations pre-emptively and the British have substantial evidence of the plot to remove Saddam Hussein from as head of state. Anti-neo-conservative protesters and activists face derision, harassment, arrest and jail time for voicing opinions that run counter to the Bush administration’s actions and aims that affect everybody in the world, including American citizens and residents. The bottom line here is that if George W. Bush gives a damn at all about the United States as an institution he would do what other post-World War Two heads of state have done in order to preserve the illusion of democracy when caught red-handed with their hand, (in this case two hands) in the proverbial cookie jar. As the leader of a nation, you quietly and humbly step down and allow a legitimate electoral process to rebuild the government and the public’s sense of democratic authority over those they pay taxes to. If the circumstances I listed, (a rather edited list mind you) were occurrences taking place in another country that claimed to be a democracy, the U.S. State Department would be the first to demand that that leader step down and call for new elections. It’s the only democratic course one could take and still claim the mantle of liberator to the world in name only. The revolting realism of a Christianised American Fourth Reich which resembles the Afghanistanian Taliban more so than the commonly attributed references to Hitler and Germany, is perhaps too much to bear for many Americans used to enjoying the “privileges†of being American at the costly expense of others not fortunate enough to be born White in the U.S. So instead of talking about censure, retractions of false statements by this administration and an immediate pullout of American forces around the globe, talk about this perverted administrations dissolution from American politics. Don’t wait for the last republican or sissified democrat to be indicted before the public at large decides that enough is enough because they won’t. As long as George and his “briefers†can keep the mainstream public’s miserably minute attention span fixed on Gay marriage, prayer in schools and activist judges, things are not likely to change, ever. No government including this one has ever fully reversed the illegal collection of domestic intelligence, extra-judicial heavy handed state sponsored dissent controls or external aggression once the door has been opened by lawmakers who only apply law where the power structure or their campaign financers tell them to apply it. If the sanctity of international law meant anything at all especially in regards to the United States and its constitution, President George W. Bush and his cronies would be sitting in the dock of the World Court at The Hague. If the rule of law was levied against the elites in the U.S. as it is imposed upon the poor and politically powerless people in this country, he would not be alone since Saddam Hussein, Henry Kissinger, Augusto Pinochet, John Negroponte and other enemies of global peace would in a just world be sitting alongside him like a bad remake of Nuremburg except this isn’t a movie. The transgressions are real as are the victims. So take it from an intelligent Indian living somewhat ungracefully under American colonial dominance, America especially White or wish they were White America has not learned anything over the past 500 years of our dealing with you. Now your hate and apathy towards those you deem unworthy of simple human respect here and elsewhere has turned back onto its original source. The chickens have truly come back to roost in your lap and you have no one to blame but yourselves. George W. Bush and his cronies cannot do anything unless the American public allows them to. So take full credit for what you have created. And when this all falls down around your ears, don’t come to us. We have another agenda and America isn’t on the list. -- Posted by Angryindian to Voice of a Native Son at 5/27/2006 12:12:00 PM Rev.
