Hyder The mainstream is wicked. Ska and metal are only good for those who play it and punk is the new blues.. so cliche, so overdone, and sooooo predictable. It has become an oxymoron. The mainstream don't hold their flags in the air. They get airplay because it actually doesn't bug people to listen to them. Good punk died with Strummer. - Fri, 27 Dec 2002 2:25am

Shit. I haven't heard the Crumbsuckers in years!
Punk didn't die with Strummer cuz we still have Keith Morris. He IS and ALWAYS WILL BE the Punkest Man Ever! - Fri, 27 Dec 2002 11:41am
hyder " Joe Stummer this is for you?" Give me a break like you have some connection to him?. Boo hoo ..there are reasons why the mainstream bands have success, there not shit.Forget your own preferances, mainstream rules, always will, you embarrass me. When a song is able to penetrate that part in us,the part that sheds macho posturing, and causes us to stop dead in our tracks and reallign our beliefs, it usually isnt some party punk song its a mainsteam ACCESSABLE song . These fleeting songs with no context dont last ( played by most fast bands) the slower in time, more audible, songs stand out, so shut your fucking mouth up about bands that no one knows about except the few who try to find proof that punk is cool .....PUNK IS THE NEW BLUES.......predictable and....MAINSTREAM ...fuck you - Fri, 27 Dec 2002 3:15pm

Ike There is some good mainstream melodic shit and there is some good metal. Mainstream Punk has become an embarassment. I think Cold Play are currently writing the best melodic stuff - Fri, 27 Dec 2002 3:58pm
Anonymous Just throwing this out there... What's everyone's absolute polar opposite favourites? Like who likes both Coldplay and Glasseater? C'mon, non-existant prize up for grabs... - Fri, 27 Dec 2002 4:03pm

Thanks for showing your true ignorance. I couldnt have done it better myself. I laugh when people post a contraversial topic and get upset when people disagree. You remind me of one of my children. I have some rope you can use if have none..... - Fri, 27 Dec 2002 4:31pm
Mr CaCO3 Hmmmm, well i find most mainstream music to be incredibly boring and trite, especially in the last couple years. It used to be that integrity sold well, back in the 60's and 70s, then it got watered down with disco/folk (the lame flowery stuff with no substance) and many other unspeakable abbhorations that I will not mention (cuz they're unspeakable you see, so mentioning is impossible...nevermind). Anyways, 80's was just chalk full of cheese and big stupid hair, and silly looking outfits, and a lot of music that insulted peoples' intelligence. Yet I supposed it also PROVED something of it considering how well it did.
But despite all this, mainstream music has always had its exceptions. There have always been a few artists who stood out, and who were remembered long after they past. Nirvana was one, Tool is one (insert predictable comment here), NIN is one, Tori Amos, Bjork, Radiohead, et al, ad verbatim, etc. So anyways, I guess my point is that the really good artists DO often get out there, and have hordes of raving fans who absolutely adore them because they DO produce music with integrity, and intelligence, and innovations. I'll refer to it as the 3I's, sort of like the 3R's. Remember those? Most forget it would seem. Anyways. Um. Hmmmmm, now mind wanders...gargh....

Right, so I think it's pretty narrow minded for people to say mainstream music sucks. That's not so much an opinion as it is a generalization. I don't thtink anyone who can discriminate between different elements of music would ever say something like that. Truly. And if they do, it's an act. it's fake. I guess that's what bugs me about a lot of punk music I hear, not just on the radio. A lot of it seems to be trying so hard to be something it's not. Just rehashing the same old, same old. Pistol's were great, Ramones were great. And I don't think we need a whole slew of bands trying to do the exact same thing. BUT. I do think it's cool that people enjoy those bands and want to capture that spirit again. I just don't think it should be taken so seriously by many who... really don't strike me as very serious people. No offense anyone. If it's to have fun, have fun! That's what it's all about! But I don't understand where all the negativity comes from when anyone has a difference of opinion. Why not learn from those? Everybody has something valid to say, should they go decide to say it. But a lot of people get so caught up in their own...social stereotypes! It seems so silly to me...hmmmmm, anyways. I guess it's all about finding your identity. I can relate to that.
Meh.
Take care all. - Fri, 27 Dec 2002 7:31pm

i dunno about you guys, but the way i judge a band is by how big they make it on the charts. For example: I am just starting to like April Lavine because after she won Star Search I didn't think that she had established herself enough, but NOW that I hear she is going out with Justin (that bitch) I seriously think she deserves some credibility. I mean, how can you not want to listen to her based on that fact alone????
I guess I fantasize and beat off over all these boy bands because I know that I am a talentless piece of shit and the only way I can garner anyones attention is by jumping on the lastest Britney Aguillara bandwagon and act like a total media whore! Please feel sorry for me and if anyone can recommend a rehab joint where my fave bands recover, I have lots of my daddy's cash to bust out for my latest 1 bedroom apartment! - Sat, 28 Dec 2002 6:10am
