Police released a set of video stills Tuesday of a man committing an armed robbery at the Fort Street business during noon hour Saturday. Police say the man spent about 20 minutes in the store before pulling out a black handgun, ordering the male and female clerk to the floor and tying their hands behind their backs. He then removed jewelry and cash from the store's safe, smashed two glass display cases and grabbed more jewelry. He was last seen running through an alley that connects the 800-block of Fort and Broughton streets. "It looks like he was there for about 20 minutes before he made his move," said Victoria police Insp. Clark Russell. "Then he fled on foot so we can't put a vehicle to him or anything." Based on the video footage and witness reports, police believe the culprit is a white male between 23 and 40 years old. He was wearing a white baseball cap, a white fleece jacket with dark-coloured zippers on the front, black track or cycling pants with reflective strips on the lower legs and white runners. He also wore gloves and dark-coloured sunglasses. While its common for replica handguns to be used in such robberies, police say the thief left behind a live round of ammunition, indicating that the gun was real. Police declined to place a value on the stolen jewelry and cash.
