Message Board > General Chitchat > garbage cans but no recycling bins? |
Autumn User Info... | has anyone else noticed this downtown? there are all sorts of garbage cans but no recycling bins for pop cans and shit like that. I figure if they're put right next to the garbage cans people will just stick to doing drunken unsanitary things in the garbage cans but put thier empty beer cans in the recycling bins. it'd be nicer for those people who would normally have to dumpster dive for thier nickles too. so why the heck aren't there any recycling bins? - Sat, 5 Jun 2004 12:53pm
lol User Info... | Why should the city spend money on recycling bins when the dumpster divers separate the recycling for free and don't mind weeding through the vomit & shit? - Sat, 5 Jun 2004 1:27pm
The One After Two User Info... | I just leave my pop can (beer autumn, downtown tisk tisk) on top of the garbage can. Someone will collect the nickel for it. At my apartment, there is a 24 hour stakeout at the recycling bin. As soon as I put it out, they are all over it. Apparently you can do all right as a pro dumpster diver (suplemented with welfare). - Sat, 5 Jun 2004 6:06pm
Pierce User Info... | FACT: I have a 58 year old friend who had a 30 year career, and is now retired. Every single day, and i mean EVERY day he walks around pushing a cart picking up bottles and cans. He makes about 100$ a day, tax free of course. That works out to 36,000$ a year my friends. He tells me he has never made more. Weird. I highly agree with the first reply. WHy waste our times when we have these clowns doing it for us. It keeps the cash rotating. - Sun, 6 Jun 2004 3:26am

Pooetry User Info... | Wow, Pierce. Your friend must collect a lot of bottles. $100 per day? So that's like 2000 bottles collected everyday. So if there's 24 hours in a day, he collects about 83 bottles an hour. With 60 minutes in an hour, he collects one to two bottles a minute. The poor guy must not get any sleep! Well, that's it! The next time I see a bottle picker, I'm going to tell him just what he can do with those bottles, take all his money, and call the tax collectors on him. Those capitalist bastards won't be getting more of my sympathy. - Tue, 8 Jun 2004 12:03pm
Autumn User Info... | yeah.. $100 a day, you're full of shit. the goverment would be getting money back in the cans, not to mention create a few jobs so there are fewer street poeple (granted not a lot but it could help) and I'm sick of the idiots who think everyone is gonna sift out there shit, not all the bottles are pulled out of the trash and wouldn't it be nicer to the bums if they could just take it out of the recycling bins than going through rotting god knows what? anyone who thinks that people enjoy going through trash to get nickels is a moron. - Sat, 12 Jun 2004 4:52pm
DOOMHAMMER User Info... | Its not only shit that you can return for money that you can recycle. - Sat, 12 Jun 2004 5:03pm
The One After Two User Info... | Autumn wrote: "anyone who thinks that people enjoy going through trash to get nickels is a moron." Well it can't be that bad, or they would get Mall jobs. You set your own hours, don't have to deal with the public, no boss, work outside... maybe I found myself a new career. Do they have a Union or website to get more info? - Sat, 12 Jun 2004 7:32pm
