Clann Z formed in Melbourne, Australia at the end of 1999. Featuring 5 Australians and one Irish man, all from various musical backgrounds; punk, rock, folk, electronic, & classical. Clann Z set out with an agenda to make music without boundaries. The vocals provided by Waterford born Declan de Barra are bilingual [Irish and English].
From beautiful dark melodies to intense spiraling instrumentals, Clann Z's music is decidedly original. The live shows can only be labeled "intense". It has been through a combination of these moving live performances that Clann Z quickly earned themselves a loyal following in their home town of Melbourne. 2001 saw their debut self-titled EP released in Australia to rave reviews as well as a steady flow of live shows.
Clann Z relocated to Ireland early in 2002 where they completed their debut album Rua.
May 2002 saw Clann Z play their first live shows in Ireland headlining Galway's Dominica Festival to a rapturous response. The animated video for "Five Thousand More" created by Clann Zu's vocalist, Declan, featured in various film festivals worldwide including the 47th Cork International film festival where Clann Z played a two very special shows at the Cork Opera House. It is also featured on various online film and animation sites. The second animated video for "Crashing to the floor" is currently under construction and will be released mid 2003 in both English and Irish.
The band spent the year playing shows around Ireland and gathering rave reviews for Rua, released initially on their own label, Zahrada records. This year, Clann Z return to Australia, and hope for extensive touring as well as commencing work on their next album. G7 Welcoming Committee will release Rua September 9, 2003.
