Bugge Wesseltoft
For several years a leader in the “nu -jazz” scene, Norway’s Bugge Wesseltoft has deep roots in the ECM-style Nordic jazz tradition
(having originally played with guys like Jan Garbarek and Terje Rypdal). He formed his own band, the New Conception of Jazz, a decade ago, and has since become a pioneer in fusing different aspects of techno and ambient music with traditional and experimental forms of jazz. His combination of acoustic instruments with an electro-club sensibility has had critics compare him to Chick Corea, Miles Davis and even Erik Satie, while cult DJs such as Mixmaster Morris sing his praises. This promises to be one of the most innovative JazzFest debuts in years!
“Club DJs rave about the Norwegian electro-jazz scene and programmer Wesseltoft is one of its finest artists.” – The Province
