Movies about Berrigan Brothers
The Trial of the Catonsville Nine
(based on a play by Daniel Berrigan)
In the King of Prussia
(a film about the Plowshares Eight by Emile de Antonio)
In May 1968, a group of Christian anti-war activists, led by radical priests Daniel and Philip Berrigan, broke into a Maryland draft office, stole hundreds of draft files and burned them with homemade napalm in the parking lot. All received lengthy prison sentences. They became known as the Catonsville Nine.
In September 1980, the Berrigans and six others, known as the Plowshares Eight, entered a General Electric nuclear warhead plant in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. They hammered on warheads and poured blood – including their own – on documents, while praying for peace. Again, they were arrested and tried.
These films tell the stories of the Catonsville Nine and the Plowshares Eight.
