About

Preservation Hall Jazz Band

Named after the most revered musical landmark in New Orleans, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band are torch bearers for New Orleans Jazz, the endlessly joyful music of Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke and Jellyroll Morton. Not to be confused with the two-beat Dixieland style, the slower and more soulful New Orleans Jazz foregrounds melody and favours improvisation. As a link between past and present, its appropriate that the PHJB septet also spans the age spectrum, from 25-yearold Benjamin Jaffe bass to Frank Desmond trombone, a spry 70- something. Known as exciting showmen as well as exemplary stylists, these musicians embody the jaunty, life-affirming music that was created in the Crescent City, the crucible of jazz, nearly a century ago. With an extensive discography and 25 years of touring internationally under their belts, the PHJB is a living, breathing-and partying!-record of the seminal music form that wowed the entire world with the sweet sounds of jazz. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band had them clapping and ... marching up one aisle and down another in their highenergy, crowd-satisfying performance. - Santa Barbara News Press
