Chris Tarry's Collective Conscience
Vancouver-based Chris Tarry is one of Canada's most successful and critically celebrated electric bassists. With two Juno Awards, three West Coast Music Award nominations, a 2002 National Jazz Award and a Jazz Report Magazine Award for his work with acclaimed electric jazz group Metalwood, he has established himself as one of the country's top jazz musicians.
Chris is a founding member of Canada's jazz super-group Metalwood. The group was formed as an outlet for his love of electric Miles Davis, the Headhunters, and Weather Report. Juno Awards in 1997 and 1998 validated their efforts.
Chris Tarry's Collective Conscience is the first solo project Chris has put together in almost six years. The new group is a step away from his more traditional jazz trios and quartets and features nine of Canada's top jazz musicians. The "Collective" focuses on a more orchestrated form of jazz improvisation, playing material drawn from Chris Tarry's latest album Of Battles Unknown Mysteries and from his previous four albums under his own name.
