ADAM CURRY
Adam's art practice has evolved over decades from a fascination with modern film narrative processes and classical painting techniques. His more recent works use modern forms of media: digital photography, the world wide web, as source materials (the sketch), having them reproduced electronically (the cartoon), and then applying traditional (Dammar Varnish) layered oil painting techniques to create optical effects. Adam's work references the past while challenging our notions of modern painting.
Through a series of works Adam moves the viewer on a cinematically inspired narrative sometimes historical, sometimes fantastic or experimental in theme. The paintings in a series engage the viewer with wit and humour to reveal linear and nonlinear patterns. This 2012 exhibition of post industrial urban landscape paintings offers a glimpse into the artist's daily moments of meditation and rest in downtown Vancouver.
