Birds of Vancouver Island, British Columbia
Bird photography opportunities are excellent year-round on Vancouver Island. The island is on a coastal Pacific route of migratory birds that travel from Alaska to Patagonia in spring and autumn. Spectacular annual events such as the herring spawn in late winter and the salmon return in the autumn attract an extraordinary variety of birds and wildlife. Depending on the time of year and location, you might see Whimbrel, Surf Scoter, Belted Kingfisher, Turkey Vulture, Bald Eagle, Trumpeter Swan, Hummingbird, Red-breasted Sapsucker, Barred Owl, Great Horned Owl, Bufflehead, Black Oystercatcher, Long-tailed Duck, Greater Yellowlegs, Great Blue Heron, Sandpipers, Black Turnstone...
