| JB User Info... | I'd like to see six bands. There are few bands around here that can hold my attention for an hour or more. Providing of course that they are not all the same style. If they play similar styles, then it's all a bit mashed anyways. | Colin Sick User Info... | -first band 25 mins -tear down and set up 20mins -2nd band 25 mins -tear down and set up 20mins -1st headliner 1hr -tear down and set up 20mins -2nd headliner 1hr -tear down and set up 20mins -3rd headliner 1hr That is a 5hr 10min show with the door needing to be split 5 ways after expenses. That show is gonna have to start right at 6 if you are lucky and have no glitches. Or this way -1st band 45 mins teardown and set up 20 mins -2nd band 45-mins teardown and set up 20mins -3rd band 45 mins With a show like this you could still probaby have a fourth band, there is less gear floating around the hall and it can start later, meaning that hopefully all the bands will have a good shot at getting heard. I am not trying to get down on anyone, these are just things I have learned from putting on shows shows when I was at mt doug(grad 99!!!!!). I have put on both kind of shows and from experiece 3 or 4 bands just works best. Heck I even put on a show with 12 bands one time !!!! - Sun, 23 Nov 2003 5:34am | ||
| The Habitat User Info... | Well what we'll prob do then is go: First opener band: 25 min Tear down, set-up: 20 min Second opener band: 25 minutes Tear down, set-up: 20 min Thrid band: 45 minutes Tear down, set-up: 20 min Fourth band: 45 minutes Tear down, set-up: 20 min Fifth band: 45 minutes Tear down, set-up: 20 min That's a bit more than 4 hours of music. It's a decent length, and this way we can get exposure out of five bands rather than three. Sure, each band may make a bit less, but it's not about the money, it's about the show, and five good bands playing their best 30 minutes of material is much better than three bands playing all their songs and dragging on for an hour. | Josh Nails User Info... | I would hate to have to put on a show where six bands were playing. Five can be extremely stressful and sometimes four si really stressful. I can't stand it when a band plays for more than half an hour unless they are someone that I am extremely stoked on, and then 45 minutes would be about all I could deal with. - Thu, 27 Nov 2003 3:33pm | ||
| Zippgunn User Info... | I try to make it a rule not to play shows with more than 3 bands on the bill. It just gets too hectic and complicated and all it takes is for one band to lose track of time, play 3 extra songs, take a bit too long to set-up or tear down or whatever and you're suddenly running an hour late and the headliner suddenly only gets a chance to play for 20 minutes if at all. To make a 5 band gig work properly requires the sort of military precision that most gig promoters lack. - Fri, 28 Nov 2003 7:53am | ||

| lonemonk User Info... | Three bands seems most efficient considering almost no shows are all-nighters. An all ager that doesn't start till 8:30 or 9 just aint going to comfortably get 5 bands on the stage. What happens when people really dig two of them? As a promoter you have to try and give people what they want. Having to leave a band off the bill because of time contraints is irresponsible and liking to cause future animosity. I typically dont like hour long sets either, but being realistic there is only about 2.5 - 3 hours total for a lot of gigs. | Livevic Scott User Info... | I'd agree 3 or 4 tops depending the length of sets beting played. If all 4 are playing 30-40 minute sets then you can do 4. If someone is going to play longer then you generally want 3. However with that said I think having your 3 or 4 bands playing, and someone doing a couple acoustic songs between sets is nice. It makes the wait between acts a little more enjoyable and does give the crowd a little more "bang" for their buck. | Aelin User Info... | this is actually close to what we're doing with our Taiama project. We have 5 bands playing and then someone playing acoustically during the setup/teardown. we've worked out the details and it looks like it's going to be a pretty good show. i hope you guys get over your animosity of large bills and check it out :) it's a fundraiser to put a roof on a school in Taiama, Sierra Leone. - Mon, 8 Dec 2003 5:38pm | ||
