Why bother associating yourself with Rifflandia? What is rifflandia doing to help this show? The festival doesn't book punk bands...and only a small fraction of people attending the fest would even be remotely interested in this show. Why offer a discount to wristband holders? - Mon, 10 Aug 2009 11:09am

Because Riffilanda is trying to branch out to include punk in the festival, and I thought I'd give them a hand by including my show with them. It doesn't affect people who do not want to participate in Riffilanda, because it will be at the door cover, but the discount is offered to promote punk entering Riffilanda. - Mon, 10 Aug 2009 11:18am

If Rifflandia was trying to include punk-rock in the festival, they would BOOK SOME PUNK BANDS. Sounds like you're helping them out by putting their name on another poster, and giving the people buying their wristbands, a discount at the door. But what is it doing for you or the bands playing your show? At best it's taking $2(or whatever the discount is) times 5 (the number of Rifflandia wristband holders that will likely attend this show), outa the bands pockets. - Mon, 10 Aug 2009 11:29am Edited: Mon, 10 Aug 2009 11:34am

Bands are going to be well taken care of and will see money at the end of the night. There are bussiness reasons as to why I included Riffilanda. But I assure you, it will be like any other well run show in which the bands will see profit. Also there is a cap on how many wristband holders will recieve the discount price - Mon, 10 Aug 2009 11:34am Edited: Mon, 10 Aug 2009 11:35am

So...Rifflandia/Atomique is gonna scratch your back if you put their name on the poster? They'll help get your friends bands on some bigger bills, etc? I'm just wondering why I have to pay two dollars more to see the band than some people who spent $60 to see an indie-rock fest...and why 3 decent punk bands would want to help to promote a festival that would never book them to play their fest.... - Mon, 10 Aug 2009 11:46am

since this show has the big backing now , i think The Hoosegow needs a gaurantee of two hundred dollars, payable before they play... - Mon, 10 Aug 2009 12:43pm

I don't see how this will really affect us or any of the bands on the bill. If some wristband sporting indie rocker shows up, then good for them. They'll get blown away by some of the best Skate Rock bands around these parts. If the promoter says she'll take care of us, it's up to her to do it. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Riffilanda approached me, therefore they are interested in these bands. The bands will get paid and it will be a great introduction of punk into Riffilanda that will hopefully convince them to put more punk acts in their show. The bands will not be affected by this, as I am still in control of the show, money and profits. I am not offering a huge discount at the door, I am merely encouraging people who do the whole Riffilanda thing, to come to the show and try out some punk - Mon, 10 Aug 2009 9:04pm

Bullshit. Rifflandia approached you...therefore they want free promotion and to develop some credibility outside of the genres of music they represent with their festival. Once again...if they wanted punk-rock in any shape or form, in their festival...they would have booked it. Also, once again...I see how this benefits the festival organizers...but how does it benefit you or the bands playing this show? My guess is that you get about five people with wristbands at this show...and that they would have been there regardless. So...I want to know why people who regularily attend and support Punk-rock in this town have to pay full price, while people with wristbands to a festival that has booked no punk bands in it's two years of existence, get a discount? Are Rifflandia at least paying for the cost of printing posters/postering for this show in exchange for putting their logo on your poster??? - Mon, 10 Aug 2009 9:49pm

Yes, Riffilanda is making a financial contribution. This is in association with Riffilanda, not a Riffilanda show. - Mon, 10 Aug 2009 10:00pm

Yeah...it's obviously not a Rifflandia show...cause they wouldn't book these bands. It's good to hear that they are making a financial contribution though. Do me a favor and let me know how many wristbands you see at the door for this show...I'd love to know. Also...if you're gonna hop into bed with 'em, you might wanna learn how to spell the festival name right... - Mon, 10 Aug 2009 10:11pm

Shit T-man, why you gotta be such a dick?
People try to build bridges and you just shit all over them.
Who cares how many wristbands come to the show - every one that does is a bonus, and if none show up it's no loss.
Are you just mad they wouldn't let you open for Tegan and Sarah? - Tue, 11 Aug 2009 9:07am

Who's being a dick? I just don't see why the bands playing this show would want to be affiliated with a festival that would never consider booking them to play.

There are too many people worried about "building bridges", networking, making connections and doing favors in this town...and not enough people interested in just playing music/putting on shows, etc, etc. - Tue, 11 Aug 2009 9:45am Edited: Tue, 11 Aug 2009 9:45am

Right, because being a malcontent and a jerk are really the best way to get shit done.

It's not obvious...it doesn't make any sense to me. So, I'm a jerk and a malcontent...Victoria needs a few of those...seems we have enough people going with the flow and taking things as they come. Complaining about everything on a local music messageboard may not be the best way to get things done...but I've got no other oiutlet to do it right now. Big Deal right...my oppinion holds absolutely no weight anyway, right?

This is a thread about the China Creeps / Hoosegow / Class of 1984 show. It WILL be a fun show. I guarantee that none of the people who book Rifflandia will be in attendance...and I'm willing to bet that you won't be either, Superslacks. - Tue, 11 Aug 2009 11:23am

It never hurts to have a bigger entity help you out, even if they are getting something back.
You assume 5 to 0 people will show up with wristbands anyway. No big loss. If you're worried about the $2 discount that you aren't getting, go buy a wristband. - Wed, 12 Aug 2009 4:46pm

The China
creeps were a lot of fun
Great tunes.

Im so glad I went out to this
Saw some old friends
Scored some sweet merch
China Creep 7inch
and a sweet new Hoosegow shirt design
It was great to skate tricks performed off of the stage
The kid that won the trick competition went on to bust his deck

I felt so sad for Pixie, alone on stage trying to auction off a twenty two dollar ticket that nobody was interested in
I almost just gave her twenty bucks to help her out, but someone ended up with it for 5.

Very refreshing

I left covered in 4 dollar Hoosegow stickers.
I didnt even feel them going on
Stealthy done.
Does that mean im accepted now?

missed hoosgow and Class of 84, but I promised Jon I would rent the movie
small but awesome crowd

Yeah...pretty small crowd at the beginning (for Class of 1984), but it got better by the time the Hoosegow got going. NOt bad considering that most of the Jak's and Teem Shiddy were outa town. I'm not surprised that the promoter had trouble auctioning off tix to Vader at a punk show...somone got a deal though. - Sat, 26 Sep 2009 8:53am
