However, using the "I need it to be creative" mindset is just stupid. I think pot allows for favourable jamming results, but we never smoke before playing live. There are examples in the metal genre of both success and failure, with regards to heavy pot consumption. Look at Cepahlic Carnage, their music is insanely hyper-complex, and they fucking rule. Personally I drink and smoke weed, and theres definately meny times my night would have sucked if not for the drink or a few tokes. Halloween or newyears, alcohol fuels the idiocy of the parties... hence all the fun, so I would assume you straight edgers are just bias due to getting sick from booze or tired from pot etc. as all of us who are all for it tend to suffer no side effects minus the occasional hangover or burnout... and I have to also wonder, would you have the same views if you too were desensitized to pot and alcohol?.. The controversy comes up mostly when people are into it to prove that they're more whatever than other folks...... It's usually people who're insecure about their lifestyle choice that get into the "I'm sXe, you're not" shit....... They're also the ones most likely to crack and become alcoholics/serious users.... | Lurker User Info... | Straight-Edge of course got its name from the Minor Threat song, and it's most likely as a result of this that the most commonly defined aspects of straight-edge coincide with the Minor Threat definition of it. The most widely agreed upon form of straight-edge consists of (1) No drugs or smokes, (2) no alcohol, and (3) no promiscuous sex. Caffeine is debatable... you can consume it and still be straight-edge but some of the sXe nazis will say that you can't, it just depends on the person. The Minor Threat guys drank coca-cola all the fucking time, and that obviously has caffeine in it. Dairy is not a part of straight-edge and never has been. That's a vegan/vegetarian thing. A person does not have to be a vegan/vegetarian to be straight-edge. It's a similar lifestyle and there are obvious similarities, but the two are not one and the same, and being vegan/vegetarian is definitely not required to be sXe. The definition of promiscuous sex also varies from person to person, but it is agreed upon that to be sXe a person must not whore themselves out, and that sex should mean something more than just physical. Though some people will include different things in their sXe-ness, the main three listed above are a must for a person to be straight-edge. If a self-proclaimed sXe person smokes or drinks or fucks around alot, they are calling themselves something that they are not. I'm straight-edge and always have been. They interviewed "actual" straight edgers (one's who fit Frazer Johnson's excellent definition) and played "Straight Edge".... I think you guys have a weird idea of what "straightedgers" are like, since the stereotype of what its adherents are about seems to come from that ludicrous America's Most Wanted episode of a few years back (sampled on the Burden song "Burn It Clean", which is a good song about exactly these kind of misunderstandings). And besides, my idea of fun tends to be about jumping around, dancing, and celebrating being alive, it's different for eveybody, and no I don't care about people getting wasted (unless it's at a show I'm putting on and the staff of the venue become extremely pissed at ME because of the drunk kids).
