I like being Canadian for the beer and the pot. Canada also has a better standard of living and gun control, and this city is a damn nice place to live. I also dont feel right about FBI and CIA like institutions having so much power over civillians. Oh yeah also we won the gold medal in hockey in both mens and womens catagories at the olympics wooo hoooo! - Sat, 11 Oct 2003 12:53pm

Who needs America? Unfortunately, our entire economy. As much as it sucks, without them, canada would be having a MUCH harder time. They piss me off... I actually saw some show subtitled "Canada; Not just our little brother to the north" or something similarly belittling.
hehe

Hails to the Queen!

I am getting Canadian citizenship because my wife and children are here.
The beer is good in both places; microbreweries are the only way to go in the states.
Commercial beer is much better in Canada.
Medical varies depending where you live in the US. There are still free clinics in California. If you dont mind being the only white person they are great if you are low on money.
Medical in Canada should be just as good. Where do the best Canadian doctors go to school?
Pot laws also vary. In California (last I was there) if you had less than an oz, you pay a small fine but whos looking. I think in Alabama you get something like 8 years in prison for a single joint.
Ive been in BC since 2000 and cannot tell the difference from many West Coast cities other than gang problems with Hispanic and black communities.
The police are very nice here and never ask me 20 questions just because its after midnight.
I disagree with the cigarette comment from above. Unless someone can tell me of a Canadian smoke that has 0 additives, just pure tobacco???
Cuban cigars are sold in Canada and you dont have to pay an arm and a leg for, while hiding from police or Customs only to discover you paid $30 for a counterfeit horse dung special from Mexico.
Both countries have Jahova witnesses lol
If you into astrology you know that North America was in Scorpio before any constitution was written. And both US and CA were founded in Cancer.
I dont miss anything in the states. Everything including good waves and weed are on this Island. If I had to leave the Island I would prefer somewhere along the Oregon/Washington coast.
Politics and living conditions are equal from what I see.
I was never a patriot. A white boy born of German Grand parents in America has nothing to be proud of.
Being told Im hated for being American hurts.
I can understand how they feel. Being Canadian seems a little like being permanently attached to a potential time bomb, the USA.

I just realized something I love about Canadians compared to Americans:
Canadians are more friendly and helpful.
Greed and money does not rule the majority here.
Deals are sometimes still made here with only a handshake. (something only my grandfather told me about)
If you forget to lock your house and leave for a few days, everything will still be there.
The women Rule!!! If Canadian men only knew how good they have it. California women Watch Out!! The women here are very different. In a good way. Not the typical mind games. Ive blushed a few times when being approached by women. They tell you how they feel, what they expect, and no big mysterys down the road. And self reliant, intelligent. - Sun, 12 Oct 2003 7:28pm

Jedi...very cool to hear your side of things. THAT'S the kind of stuff I was looking for. I haven't travelled enough through the U.S. to make an objective opinion, everything I know so far comes from my limited time spent in Seattle and from the textbooks I read in my Criminology classes. I have to agree with the Canadian women comment...being one myself. - Sun, 12 Oct 2003 9:14pm

sometimes its an odd and scary scene in the states. I lived there for 8 years before i moved up here. I am a canadian originally from Ottawa. A large majority of my american friends are severely effected by the whole "American mind frame". It is shocking the amount of them who could not wait until their 18th birthday to buy a handgun. Its the anger and violence that really gets to me. While living there I was confronted with cruelty and violence throughout my elementary school, despite living in a middle class white neighbourhood. But when I moved here for high school I was shocked at the kindness of people. I'm not trying to give the states a bad rap, its just that I still travel to and from the USA and the change in attitude is very noticable. I am glad to be Canadian. - Mon, 13 Oct 2003 1:01pm

I just want to live on an island. I don't think I would hate living in the states because I love business. Some people say don't mix business with pleasure, but for my nothing is more pleasurable than doing business. I really enjoy putting together deals and making things happen. In my last dealings I found it is significantly easier to get permits and licensing in the states for developments and even proprietorships. I would rather live in Canada because I am a canadian, but I am sure there are some beautiful little islands off the coast of california that would suit my needs.
I guess in the end all it really comes down to is who are the people you are surronded by. If your surrounded by good people then I don't think it would matter where your are. But Canada is my first choice.
