I just got back from our whirlwind Island tour with the mighty Ripcordz. What a weekend! I'm pretty sure I'll remember this one for the rest of my life.
It started on Saturday here in Vic. The Hoosegow didn't play that night, whick is a good thing because I was too smashed to think straight let alone pull off a set. Had a great time though.
Sunday we hopped in Gray Thunder and madt the trek to Courtney. The show was in a ginat log cabin called the Native Sons Of Canada Hall. Fucking cool! All cedar and animal heads everywhere. It turns out that this hall opened up 75 years ago to the day of the show. Jill the promoter put on a stellar show and the KIDS WENT OFF!! I found the lacking of restraint on the drinking to be an interesting element not seen at too many all-ages shows. I guess that just how they do things up there. All the bands (The Aviators, The Hoosegow, Alcoholic White Trash, The Banned, Ripcordz) played great sets. We were then treated to a night on Jill's parent's farm(Hoosegow and Ripcordz that is, everyone else had to come back to Vic). WOW! Quiet darkness save for the horses, dogs, cats, and rabbits! We continued drinking under the stars and were trated to the most amazing display of the Northern Lights! In the morning, Jill's Mom brought us donuts, muffins and coffee and basicaly RULED! Thanks again!
After a renegade drive back down to Victoria to take care of some business, we were back in Gray Thunder and heading to Nanaimo for the show. Again, a class act by the promoters. The kids were insane, flying everywhere and everyone seemed to have a beer in their hand. NO COPS! They sure do it different up there. Now here I am going to bed for work in ther morning. I would much rather be gearing up to head to Prince George with the Ripcordz.
Thanks to Jill and Rachel, all the other bands and all the cool kids we met this weekend. We will be doing many more shows up north in the future.
Sorry about the length, but I just had to let everyone know how cool the scene up there is right now! - Tue, 19 Aug 2003 4:30am

That Courtenay show kicked ass. Nanaimo was good too... shame about the P.A. though. Hilarious to see like four people looking all over the floor for their piercings after the Ripcordz played. - Tue, 19 Aug 2003 5:37pm

Ya I was one of them. The weekend in fact started on friday for me being my girlfriends b-day. Then saturday a.w.t., the beaumonts, and the ripcordz. It's been a long time since I've seen a turnout like that at a Victoria bar show, and on top of that everyone was going nuts and having a blast. This is the second year in a row I've gotten to do the island with the Ripcordz and man those guys are seriously cool people. The three shows this weekend reminded me why I play music once again. We had people hitchhike down from Campbell river to nanaimo just to see the show. Whats the deal with that? It seems like in victoria if it's more than two blocks out of the way people dont come out. This was definitely the most fun I've had all year. Hopefully next year we'll take our asses out to Montreal and meet them there. Definite hats off to the promoters in courtney(Jillian) and the promoters in nanaimo... wicked shows, I want to play more up there. - Tue, 19 Aug 2003 7:18pm

aCk... I can't believe I missed the Ripcordz play here in Victoria. Then again, working days really can pose a problem when most of the decent shows are on work nights :( - Thu, 28 Aug 2003 4:30pm
