I am looking for artists/bands to play acoustic shows in a cafe/coffee shop downtown. We are applying for our liquor licence next week. shows will be all ages with booze for people 19 and older. Payment will be the majority of the door $$ so the more people you bring out the more you get paid. Promoting costs can be negotiated or you can take this upon yourselves. email me if interested.

Hey Brandon, Which Cafe is it? I would be totaly interested in playing there, and even more interested in getting my good friend Reid Williams in there. He is more of an acoustic cat than me. Let me know how to make it work.

If you are going to do an open mic, the hardest battle you will fight is having the same people show up every week, month after month, playing the same three songs. IF you do a first-come first-served system like Steamers, this is what you get.
You need a host who will tell people that they need to hold a few spots for new people, and if no new people show up, then fine, tehy can play. I have been at Steamers many times when people who really know how to play, or who really want to but have never done it before, show up at 10pm, but they can't play because the same 10 people all were there an hour before it started waiting in line to sign their names. It takes a benevolent dictator to have a good open mic.

Or, put numbers in a hat, and have people draw numbers, regardless of when they walked in the door, plus reserve a few numbers for last-minute additions.

These open mics get stale in a real hurry if the host doesn't put some effort into making them interesting and unpredictable. - Tue, 26 Aug 2003 6:16pm

See thats the type of feedback I was looking for. your idea sounds like a possitive way to do open mics and involve more people in the long run. Anyone else agree with this system????? Hmmm what will be my dictator name..... - Tue, 26 Aug 2003 9:55pm

k so leme get one thign straight... is there any sort of genre your looking for? cuz Im not too sure, but you cant really rock out too hard with just an accoustic... you can still rock, but you gotta be mighty talented to do it. lol.

on the accoustic... I have a few originals... stuff the chics like to hear... kinda like Hope Leaves by OPeth - Wed, 27 Aug 2003 3:15pm

I am not focusing on one genre or another, i dont like alot of music but if they want to play at the cafe then ok they can play. And as for rocking out, i've seen some good rockin out on acoustics, and electrics wouldn't really work because its a small place. - Wed, 27 Aug 2003 4:33pm
