Don't you dare sell that magical machine, Mr. Hell.
We've got 1000+ more songs to record on it.
You may rent it out at $100 an hour, however. - Thu, 26 Mar 2009 6:19pm

Oh, the Acorn Hell portable studio is not for sale.
It's an old ghetto I found in the garbage.
It will do as much analog recording as any sane human can handle, all for this low price. - Thu, 26 Mar 2009 9:15pm

I don't think anyone nearby is going to record you on reel-to-reel, at least not for cheap at all. I could see you guys renting some nice mics and trying for a better 4-track tape recording or something. But pretty much every fresh DIY band is doing digital recordings. You guys can still release stuff on an analog medium like cassette or vinyl and it'll impart some of the "warmth" (equalization and physical imperfections) onto the final result. But I don't think you're really at the stage or financial level where you can be analog purists. Most new punk/hardcore/metal/indie rock/whatever that's being released on vinyl these days has been recorded digitally, or at least gone through a single step of digitization at some point in the chain. It might be higher-quality than CD though still (recorded at 24bit or with super high sampling rates or bit rates like in SACD and DVD audio). I have a feeling that your approach is the "Fuck analog! That's what the bands we like say!" approach. You can sound very close to them if you just use similar mics, similar amps (no solid state overdrive or digital effects), record live in the same room, don't use any digital effects in the processing stage, and just put the final mix on tape for duplication or send the digital files for vinyl mastering and plating. - Fri, 3 Apr 2009 1:41pm Edited: Fri, 3 Apr 2009 1:42pm
