More accurately, Iskra is pro "touring bands actually making enough scratch to pay for the ferry so they will come back". Not to mention the fact that all the all ages venues are booked up or currently in the process of blacklisting extreme metal acts again.

Keep raging against the machine, though. - Fri, 20 Feb 2009 5:33pm

Just a word to the wise - minimum cover at Logans' is 7 dollars. I did that once too. Found out the hard way at the door when people damn near flipped lids. Make sure everyone knows. And also, still waiting for a return gig-favour from the compound boys.....just saying!!! - Fri, 20 Feb 2009 6:19pm

sorry! all the all ages shows were booked. we had one but they'd double booked and let us know 3 days before leaving for tour! we busted our asses to find venues so against empire and from the depths could at least come. but don't lose hope, we are also working(yes, even while on tour)to hook up a house show for all ages before the bar show. please stay tuned for that as there will NOT be major advertising.

7 bux sucks but i'm pretty sure all the money goes to the bands so you're helping with that extra dollar. - Sat, 21 Feb 2009 5:14pm

it costs round trip for a van/band to come to Victoria about 300 bucks, plus the cost of the hall rentals, probably about the same, plus the planning, organizing, postering, etc,so when I see people bitch about an extra dollar for a show its pretty weak.
maybe some of you should try doin it yerself - Sat, 21 Feb 2009 7:18pm

rossbay, this isn't our (compound terror's) show. We definitely do owe you a hookup. Putting on shows reeks of effort, though; i'll just help you guys muscle onto bills by sending 3rd-party anonymous threats to promoters to include you on shows. - Sun, 22 Feb 2009 5:33pm

I like the technique. It's much better than our "just show up at the gig with your stuff and set it up and play whether they like it or not" move. It never really worked all that well. - Sun, 22 Feb 2009 5:42pm Edited: Sun, 22 Feb 2009 5:43pm

ok, the all ages show is on. i can't put it up on livevictoria until i have permission from the house(it is a house show) the lineup for that will be: against empire, from the depths, dirk, iskra. if i don't get permission to put it up, check out camas for the poster. there will be limited capacity so advertising will be minimal. the show starts at 5 and ends at 8:00. there will be a suggested donation of $5, all of which will go to the touring bands(as per usual). you won't be disappointed, against empire are sounding awesome! - Sun, 22 Feb 2009 10:45pm Edited: Sun, 22 Feb 2009 10:48pm

here is the text from the bottom incase you can not read it on here:
On february 27 1973, the American Indian Movement (AIM) began the Occupation of Wounded Knee on the Oglala Pine Ridge Reservation. During the 71 day standoff, over 60 indigenous warriors were murdered by the FBI and the GOONs. Out of those who survived many are were framed on various charges, & many are still in prison such as John Graham and Leonard Peltier. Bob Robideau, a cousin to Peltier, and long standing AIM Warrior passed away this February 17. Ward Churchill another AIM warrior has court starting March 9 to fight his wrongful firing on false allegations, there has been a saddening movement to discredit him. John Graham recently lost the fight against extradition to the USA and is about to start the trial where he is being framed for the murder of fellow AIM warrior Anna Mae Aquash. At the same time the The Lakota Freedom Delegation is fighting in the courts to win sovereignty over the Traditional Territories of the Lakota nation. AIM has a long and proud history. We must work to support indigenous struggle & free all political prisoners! - Mon, 23 Feb 2009 1:06pm

Crimethinc's website describes From the Deapths as
"A couple of the survivors of Requiem—not to mention other bands such as Intense Youth, Auryn, Balaclava, Network of Terror, and Catharsis"
something they don't mention is that Catharsis was members of the crimethinc collective too...

I'm still waiting for the big anarchist revolution to happen that will free us from the chains of the oppressive system. The thing bands have been singing about for 30+ years.

Any chance of that peeking around the corner any time soon? - Wed, 25 Feb 2009 9:29am

Flesh Vortex, bands have been singing about "the revolution" since there was something to revolt against. Good first post though, I can't wait to read your next opus: "If feminists are all about equality, why do they think they're better than men?" - Wed, 25 Feb 2009 9:49am

Well that's lame then. When are punk and anarchist musicians going to put their money where their mouth is? Always complaining about something, talking about ripping down barriers and "crushing the pigs", and what about the crosshairs on Harper's head?

The biggest revolt I've seen in this town in a long time was numbnuts setting up camp next to the City Hall. And that was just to be an asshole and get publicity.

And feminists are not real women. - Wed, 25 Feb 2009 11:42am

Many anarchist punks have put their money where their mouth is, from Garry Hanna & Julie Belmas to people like Jeff-"Free" Luers. As well not all anarchist punks are insurgents, many like all the kids in Eleutheros are syndicalists, and do shitloads of work with industrial union organizing and animal rights groups. Then of course there are those of us who believe in setting up alternative models to the corruption offered by the mainstream models, so we do things like organize underground shows, and play in diy bands. I myself live in a communal house, set up talks, workshops, and even anarchist bookfairs (last year we had 1700 people) as well as setting up shows. Then of course there is stuff like Black raven and Camas, which are non profit, and although they are not picking up guns and bombing crap, they are definitely putting their money where their mouth is. hell i know anarchist punks that have even traveled to Oaxaca to Help APPO, or to the Grassy narrows to help with the road blocks. There are anarcho-punks involved in groups like Tierra viva in mexico to that do a shitload of work with the indigenous farmers, and of course we have the militant European anarchist punks, the black blockers, and all the anti-olympics organizing happening. But I guess none of that is revolution eh?
really revolution will happen when we organize to make it happen and quit waiting for it.
I guess for people like you it is easier to do nothing but criticize people on web forums like this...

House show was definitely way sweeter, no doubt. No problems, good turnout, awesome bands.
The show at logans was good too, but there was an annoying drunk guy falling around in the pit ( not that there was really a pit) most people left before From the Depths, and the sound was weird during their set. I never really like bar shows though, they house show was 10 times funner.

p.s. if anyone got pics I would love to see them. - Mon, 2 Mar 2009 2:50pm
