Hey Everyone,
so I woke up this morning to find my 1985 Red Toyota Minivan had stolen from the Vancouver st, between bay and Kings.

It had a Yorkvilla LS800P PA sub in the back (as ballast during the snow, and also a yorkville Nx520p powered speaker (the drum monitor for any of the shows I do sound for)

I don't hold a lot of hope for the PA gear, but I'm hoping the van itself turns up, it'd be really hard to replace. It's red, the license plate is 6741 LR, and it's got one maroon bench seat in the middle.

The serials numbers on the gear are:
LS800P (sub) 6-44198
Nx520P (monitor) 2091936

If anyone knows anything I'd greatly please contact me. You can call met at 250-744-5412 or email me at [email protected] - Fri, 2 Jan 2009 3:54pm

That royally sucks! Freakin thieves... Stories like this make me wish Shari’a law was in place in Canada. Catch the thief? Lob off a hand.

In Nev's defense, probably the only way to steal an LS800P is take the van with it - thing weighs 65 kilograms!

I'm sure the van will show up, most likely it is sitting in Langford somewhere after a bit of a joyride.

How much gas did you have in it? Seems unlikely they'd fill it up so that will decide how far they could have gotten.

Yeah, I made a bad call leaving the sub in the van. I had it in there because it's the heaviest thing I've got and weight keeps the traction in action on snowy days. The snow was gone, but I didn't take it out because I suspected Mama N, might have another flurry afoot.

I did have 3/4s of a tank gas, which would get the Tokyo Tyke 450km or so. I hope it didn't.

A Livevic user notified me that 1 Nx520 speaker showed up on usedvictoria the day the van was stolen (one was in the van). The Nx520p is a pretty old model and I don't think too common. I notified the police.

I now firmly believe Victoria Needs a regional police force. I became the center of a regional push-o-war between Victoria PD and the Westshore RCMP. Each thought my case was out of their jurisdiction. I spent made many calls back and forth between departments because my stuff was stolen from Victoria and Sold in Langford.

In the end, the RCMP took on the case, and were going to call the contact on usedVic and set up a meeting with an undercover officer, confirm the serial, and if aproriate arrest him. However, they phoned from a *67 style department phone that shows up as "private caller" on a cell. After getting a few calls like that that didn't leave a message or a number to call back, I think the seller figured someone was onto him.

A few hours after speaking with the police I realized something like this would happen so I figured I'd try to get a friend to set up a meeting, which the RCMP could attend (I didn't want to use my phone since then name from vehicle registration would appear). My friend reached the guy, who at this point vigorously and suspiciously denied having any speaker. I figure, he'd realized someone was after him.

Finally vicPD put a dedicated officer on the case, who I actually think would have done a great job, but he had get off the case once he realized the RCMP officer was still on the case, and hadn't closed the file. I've talked to the RCMP officer, who seems way to busy to take this on.

If anyone sees a red toyota van, liscense 6741 LR please let me know. I sure did like and need it. - Wed, 7 Jan 2009 3:10am Edited: Wed, 7 Jan 2009 3:19am

What an epic fuck up on the part of all police departments.
You should have gotten a possie of thugs to go meet the guy in the first place.

I agree on the regional police force.
There would be faster results and better communication rather than this district to district communication.

Sorry to hear about the loss though. - Wed, 7 Jan 2009 2:10pm

"What an epic fuck up on the part of all police departments"

There are way more important things us homeowners want our property tax going towards. A speaker in a van should be an insurance claim, not a police investigation. As long as the police take down the information in case any items come up and as long as a police report is filed for insurance purposes we shouldn't expect anything else. - Wed, 7 Jan 2009 3:35pm

And? Vehicle Insurance. A Speaker in a Van. Where did i not say that? I even suggest a police report for insurance purposes. When you read it you must have thought you had something to contribute to this thread as soon as you saw the word "speaker". - Wed, 7 Jan 2009 4:17pm Edited: Wed, 7 Jan 2009 4:18pm

"A speaker in a van"

Mayhaps I interpreted your post wrong. It would be nice of you to show some empathy though.

Sucks to hear about the police passing the buck Nev. Back east there was an intersection that was on the border of 3 separate PDs and they would always be in argument over who had to file paperwork for accidents. They changed to a regional PD after awhile though. Hope your stuff turns up. - Thu, 8 Jan 2009 1:57am

I just got back from the RCMP station with my sub!

Last Wednesday another LiveVic user was able to set up a meeting with the guy who was selling the speaker. I showed up to the meeting in his place. In his bedroom, in his suite at his parents house he had both my sub and the monitor. He was selling the monitor but didn't want to sell the sub. I ended up buying the monitor, so it wouldn't disappear when he sold it to someone else. After I left notified the RCMP, and spent 3 hours in their waiting room, reading kids books (which is all they have for some reason) .

It took a while, but this morning they showed up with a search warrant and arrested him and got the sub back.

The van is still missing, and the guy isn't likely to give any info, but at least the PA is back together. I'm hoping the van will still turn up (Possibly near triangle mountain out in colwood.) If anyone sees it please let me know.

Again, thanks so much to the people who notified me of this post and helped me set up meetings. I owe you big time. Also thanks to everyone who has been keeping an eye open for the van. - Mon, 12 Jan 2009 8:08pm

We found the Van!

Last night my friend Marcella and I combed the streets of suburban Langford, around the area where the guy who had my stolen gear lived. When we were just about to give Marcella, saw a similar looking van out of the corner of her eye. We backed up and sure enough there it was, parked in the visitor spot of some half sold condo, the Tokyo Tyke. It was missing it's spare tire, and was messy, but was otherwise unharmed.

The RCMP came and had a look, but couldn't find any fingerprints, or identification, so I hopped in it and drove it home.

It now needs a good clean to get that feel of violation off it, and I need to come up with some better security, but I'm stoked to have it back.

Again, thanks to everyone who helped through all of this. Much appreciated. - Thu, 15 Jan 2009 2:11pm

cant you buy a little box called "a little snitch" or something that has GPS tracking? it's about the size of a cell phone and fits pretty much anywhere in a car.

and for the spreakers, can't you get ID tags/stickers to make sure pawnshops dont buy it.

you're lucky this criminal was stupid.
is he getting charged? - Thu, 15 Jan 2009 3:01pm

Yeah, I'm sure he at least knew it was stolen, if he didn't steal it himself. His original ad said he'd had the speaker for a year, which was obviously a lie. The van was ditched a short walk from his house, which could mean he ditched it close so he could walk home after. Alternatively it could mean that whoever stole the van drove it out to his place, sold him the speakers (or bartered them) and ditched the van as quickly as possible. - Sat, 17 Jan 2009 11:02am

yeah catching theives isn't a good thing either... you self absorbed twat. I hope your car gets stolen; and the police give you a fair fuck-off, see how your "opinion" of police investigations go. Or how about someone breaks into your house and steals a bunch of stuff? Give your head a shake when you say that crime like this doesn't warrent an investigation(besides, what the hell else do the police do around here?) - Sat, 17 Jan 2009 11:32am
